O-17 SATELLITE TRANSITION SPECTROSCOPY OF AMORPHOUS SIO2

Abstract

The increase of spectral resolution of the 3/2 <--> 1/2 (-1/2 <--> -3/2) satellite transition spinning sidebands of O-17 NMR has been demonstrated for amorphous SiO2. Even for large quadrupole coupling constants (C(Q) almost-equal-to 5 MHz), the spinning sidebands can be observed. Compared with the static lineshape, there is a line narrowing of greater than ten; the additional gain in resolution is three with respect to the central transition magic angle spinning (MAS) pattern. This effect can be used for improved determination of the true chemical shifts under MAS conditions
