Abstract

This paper addresses the error analysis of data acquisition of reverse engineering process using design of experiment. The study focuses on the measurement errors and uncertainties of 3D surface digitization. An approach using Design of Experiments (DOE) to analyse contact probe measurement uncertainty has been investigated. The DOE results have shown that sampling speed has no significant effect to the measurement uncertainty, but Part Size, Surface Form and Probe Size have strong influences, the results have shown a very good agreement between theoretical assumptions and practical results. By modelling the measurement process as a combination of machine, method and people that transform inputs (controllable variables) into an output (response variable), a general guideline for reducing measurement errors and uncertainties has been presented
