Abstract

A lawyer representing a client should try to \u22do the right thing.\u22Stated in simplest terms, this is the ideal that inspires the recurrent callfor lawyers to be more ethical. In the most recent decade, the call hasbeen expressed in terms of \u22professionalism.\u22 In earlier years, the callwas expressed as a demand that lawyers dedicate themselves to \u22servingthe public interest\u22 and in Victorian times it was expressed in terms ofthe \u22honor of the legal profession.\u22 However expressed, the quest is forgreater virtue on the part of lawyers, both individually and as aprofession
