Heat transfer phenomena in a thermally stratified energy storage with integrated heat exchanger coils

This report deals with an experimental investigation on the thermal behavior of the heat exchanger, and a numerical parameter variation study on the application of the heat exchanger in the Domestic Hot Water circuit. The potential benefits of application of a DHW heat exchanger comprise (1) a simple and relatively cheap system layout and (2) avoidance of legionella bacterial growth. The strong suppression of legionella growth inside the coil allows for a lower storage temperature, potentially resulting in a higher system performance.
