The integration of knowledge is one of the underlying principles of the Doctoral Program in studies of Environmental and Development. Within this context, the examination of the dichotomies nature/ society, man/animal, sciences/humanities has been considerered crucial. The present reflections revolve around some of the concepts used in the discussion of these dichotomies, resorting to concepts such as reduction, holism and incommensurability.
