MANIPULATIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF PR IN THE PROCESS OF SOCIAL REALITY FORMATION

Abstract

The article defines characteristics of manipulative effect of PR in the framework of semiotic paradigm, actualized with postmodern social practice. The originality of the research lies in analysis of manipulative element of modern PR technologies in the context of total semiotization of informative-communication sphere. The purpose of the study is to determine characteristics of manipulative effect of PR in the framework of semiotic paradigm, actualized with postmodern social practice. Characteristics of postmodern society, marketization of mass media sphere, leading role of public relations in forming of social space, total semiotization of all social practice - they all caused strengthening of manipulative element of modern PR technologies. Origin of PR manipulation lies in its duality aim, in particular in its tendency to harmonize society and facilitate purpose of a subject striving to dominate in the society. Manipulative influence in PR has got its own signed, semiotic nature. The action of signing is being continued in the action of forming the reality with signed-symbolic structures, specified when being signed, which then form social opinion. Most of manipulative practice used in Public Relations are aimed at forming necessary context, generating favourable sense for a PR subject
