Abstract

THIS WORK ARGUES FOR THE SIGNIFICANCE OF USING LITERARY TEXTS IN THE GREEK FL CLASSROOM IN ORDER TO ENHANCE LEARNERS' MOTIVATION TO LEARN THE FL.TO INVESTIGATE THIS HYPOTHESIS, ATTENTION WAS FOCUSED ON LEARNERS' ATTITUDES, MOTIVATION AND INTEREST IN THE USE OF LITERARY TEXTS.QUANTITATIVE/DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH WAS CONDUCTED IN WHICH QUESTIONNAIRES WERE USED AS THE MAIN INSTRUMENTS TO COLLECT DATA.THE RESEARCH WAS CARRIED OUT IN 35 LYKEIA(SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS)ALL OVER GREECE THROUGH A STATIFIED PROCEDURE WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF 932 STUDENTS.THE RESULTS OBTAINED IN THIS STUDY WERE STATISTICALLY ANALYSED.OUR INVESTIGATION HAS PROVIDED CONCRETE RESEARCH EVIDENCE THAT LITERARY TEXTS, AS PART OF THE MATERIALS OF FLL, ARE HIGHLY LIKELY TO AROUSE LEARNERS' INTEREST, AND GENERATE POSITIVE ATTITUDES AND MOTIVATION FOR LEARNING THE FL. POSSIBLE IMPLICATIONS OF THE RESULTS OBTAINED IN THIS STUDY ARE ALSO PUT FORWARD IN THIS THESIS.THEY ARE CONCERNED WITH SYLLABUS DESIGN, TEACHING MATERIALS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNERS 'LANGUAGE SKILLS, CULTURAL AWARENESS AND TEACHER TRAINING.
