BIOMETRIC GENETIC ANALYSIS OF ISOGENIC LINES OF TOMATO (LYCOPERSICON ESCULENTUMMILL.)

Abstract

THREE ISOGENIC LINES OF TOMATO WERE USED IN ORDER TO BE ESTIMATED THE GENETIC EFFECTS OF FOUR GENES OF TOMATO (HP, Y, AT, GS) - WHICH AFFECT THE COLOUR OF THE FRUIT AND THE EPIDERMIS - IN THE INHERITANCE OF QUANTITATIVE CHARACTERS OF TOMATO OF ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE. THE STUDY OF THESE GENES IN PAIRS AND THE RECIPROCAL CROSSES THAT WERE MADE BETWEEN THE ISOGENIC LINES THAT WERE USED IN EACHCASE, HAD AS A RESULT THE DEVELOPMENT OF FOUR F2 GENERATIONS. THE SEPARATION OF THE PLANTS INTO NINE GENOTYPIC CLASSES IN EACH F2 GENERATION WAS MADE BY THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE F3 GENERATION. THE ESTIMATES OF THE GENETIC PARAMETERS WERE MADE BY THE WEIGHTED LEAST SQUARES ANALYSIS WHICH IS BASED ON THE GENETICMODEL THAT INCLUDES AND THE DIGENIC INTERACTIONS OF INDEPENDENT GENES. THE RESULTS HAVE SHOWN THAT THE HP GENE AFFECT YIELD PER PLANT, EARLINESS AND THE HEIGHT PER PLANT, WITH ADDITIVE GENE ACTION. THE GENES Y (Y, Y), AT (AT, AT) AND GS (GS, GS) DID NOT AFFECT THE QUANTITATIVE CHARACTERS THAT HAVE BEEN STUDIED. THE NON-ALLELIC INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THE GENES HP AND Y AND THE AT AND GS WERE NOT STATISTICALLY IMPORTANT.
