GD-DTPA AS AN INTESTINAL CONTRAST AGENT FOR MR IMAGING OF THE LOWER ABDOMEN

By ΑΝΔΡΕΑΣ ΠΕΤΡΟΥΛΑΚΗΣ

Abstract

31 PATIENTS WITH PATHOLOGY FROM THE LOWER ABDOMEN WERE EVALUATED BY MRI BEFORE AND AFTER THE ADMINISTRATION OF GD-DTPA (IN CONCENTRATION OF 1,0 MMOL/LIT) PEROS, PER RECTUM OR BOTH. WE USED MRI MACHINE 0,5 TESLA WITH SPIN ECHO PULSE SEQUENCE. OUR RESULTS SUGGEST THAT GD-DTPA IN THE CONCENTRATION OF 1.0 MMOL/LIT MOSTLY ADMINISTERED BY RECTUM OR EVEN BETTER BOTH RECTUM AND ORAL, DESPITE OF THE DISADVANTAGE OF THE POOR CONTRAST TO THE FAT, CONSTITUTES A QUITE HOPEFULCONTRAST MEDIUM FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF LOWER ABDOMEN BY MRI, WITHOUT SERIOUS UNTOWARD EFFECTS AND WITHOUT GHOST ARTEFACTS FROM THE LOWER ABDOMEN.
