By ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ ΣΤΡΑΤΟΣ

Abstract

A NEW TYPE OF STEERABLE GUIDING CATHETER FOR PERCUTANEOUS TRANSLUMINAL CORONARYANGIOPLASTY (PTCA) AND THE INITIAL EXPERIENCE WITH THIS CATHETER ARE DESCRIBED. THIS CATHETER WAS USED IN CASES WHERE THE CONVENTIONAL GUIDING CATHETERS HAD PREVIOUSLY FAILED, BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE OF PLACEMENT AND STABILIZATION OF THE GUIDING CATHETER IN THE CORONARY OSTIUM OR BECAUSE OF THE UNCONTROLLED ENTRANCE OF THE CATHETER TIP INTO THE CORONARY VESSEL. THE STEERABLE CATHETER HADENHANCED TORQUE CONTROL AND HANDLING, EASE OF ENGAGEMENT AND DISENGAGEMENT OFTHE CORONARY OSTIA, SUPERIOR BACK-UP SUPPORT AND THE CAPABILITY OF PERFORMANCE OF ANGIOPLASTY IN MORE THAN ONE CORONARY VESSEL USING ONLY ONE GUIDING CATHETER.
