PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS SIMULATION AND ELECTRIC GRID PROBLEMS ANALYSIS

Abstract

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS DISSERTATION IS TO CREATE AND PRESENT A PHOTOVOLTAIC (PV)PARK AND A PV SYSTEM SIMULATION MODEL, IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A METHOD OF THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF SERIOUS PROBLEMS THAT ARE CAUSED TO THE UTILITYGRID BY PV PLANTS CONNECTED TO IT AND TO AFFORD A USEFUL TOOL FOR THE OPTIMALDESIGNING AND PLANNING OF THE CONTROL ASPECTS OF THESE PLANTS. TWO OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEMS THAT PREVENT THE DEVELOPMENT OF PV TECHNOLOGY ARE: A) THE BAD QUALITY OF THE ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLIED BY A PV SYSTEM AND B ) THE TRANSIENT PHENOMENA CAUSED BY SOLAR RADIATION (MOVING CLOUDS) DISTURBANCES. CHAPTER2 DEALS WITH THE FIRST PROBLEM. THE RESULTS OF THE THEORETICAL ANALYSIS WERECOMPARED TO HARMONIC VOLTAGE AND CURRENT FIELD MEASUREMENTS OBTAINED AT 3 GREEK ISLANDS WITH PV STATIONS: ARKI-ANTIKITHIRA-KYTHNOS, AND WERE FOUND TO BE IN GOOD AGREEMENT, PROVIDING SIGNIFICANT RESULTS, THAT WERE USED LATER. CHAPTER3 DEALS WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PV-PARKS SIMULATION MODEL. THE INNOVATIONLAYS TO THE FACT THAT THE HIGH-ACCURACY-SIMULATION OF THE I-V CURVE OF A PV POWER PLANT IS ACHIEVED THROUGH A FULLY CONTROLLABLE 3-PHASE AC/DC 6-PULSE RECTIFIER ALONG WITH ITS ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FEED-FORWARD CONTROL CIRCUIT. PLENTYOF STUDY CASES WERE EXAMINED AND ANALYSED PROVIDING SIGNIFICANT RESULTS. THE WHOLE SYSTEM WAS PROOVED TO BE ABLE TO SIMULATE THE I-V CURVE OF THE PV PLAN. (ABSTRACT TRUNCATED)
