THE TRANSCRIPTION ACTIVATOR GCNH: A STUDY OF ITS EXPRESSION AND ITS FUNCTION

By ΝΕΚΤΑΡΙΟΣ ΤΑΒΕΡΝΑΡΑΚΗΣ

Abstract

AIM: EXAMINATION OF THE GCN4 GENE EXPRESSION AND ELUCIDATION OF THE MECHANISM OF THE FUNCTION OF THE GCN4 PROTEIN ENCODED BY GCN4 GENE. METHOD: USE OF GENETIC AND BIOCHEMICAL TECHNIQUES. USE OF MUTATIONS AND ISOLATION OF RELEVANT GENES. RESULTS: MORE THAN ONE MECHANISMS MEDIATE GCN4 MRNA TRANSLATIONAL DEREPRESSION. THE ACTIVATION DOMAIN OF THE GCN4 TRANSCRIPTION REGULATOR COMMUNICATES WITH BASIC TRANSCRIPTION FACTORS VIA TWO PATHWAYS.
