STUDY OF LEFT VENTRICULAR FUNCTION AFTER THROMBOLYSIS IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION

By ΣΤΑΥΡΟΣ ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΙΔΗΣ

Abstract

THE PURPOSE OF THE TRIAL WAS TO STUDY THE LEFT VENTRICULAR FUNCTION AFTER THROMBOLYSIS IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION. THE INCLUDED PATIENTS WERE 218 FROM WHICH 124 RECEIVED STREPTOKINASSE AND 94 DID NOT. THE STUDY OF THE LEFT VENTRICULAR FUNCTION WAS DONE BY LEFT VENTRICULOGRAPHY, RADIOISOTOPIC VENTRICULOGRAPHY, ECHOCANTIOGRAM AND SYSTOLIC TIME INTERVALS. THE EJECTION FRACTION BY LEFT VENTRICULOGRAPHY WAS 54% IN PATIENTS RECEIVED STREPTOKINASE AND 47% IN PATIENTS WHO DID NOT (P,0,05). BY RADIOISOTOPIC VENTRICULOGRAPHY THE EJECTION FRACTION WAS 46% AND 43% RESPECTIVELY (P,0,05). IN ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY THE DISTANCE FROM THE MITRAL E POINT TO THE INTERVENTRICULAR SEPTUM WAS 10MM AND 14MM RESPECTIVELY (P<0,05). SAME RESULTS WERE OBSERVED WITH SYSTOLIC TIME INTERVALS WITH SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN FAVOR OF THE STREPTOKINASE GROUP. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE PATIENTS WHO RECEIVED STREPTOKINASE IN ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION HAD BETTER LEFT VENTRICULAR FUNCTION.
