Abstract

THE STUDY CONSISTS OF AN ANALYSIS OF THE NEGOTIATING ENVIRONMENT AND A COMPREHENSIVE DISCUSSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES ACTIVITY IN THE GATT URUGUAY ROUND MULTILATERAL NEGOTIATIONS. ANALYTICAL EMPHASIS IS PUT ON THE COMMISSION'SDOUBLE-SIDED NEGOTIATING ROLE, INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL. INTERNALLY, THE COMMISSION WAS CONCERNED WITH COORDINATING MEMBER STATE INTERESTS AND EXTERNALLY, WITH TRYING TO OBTAIN THE MOST ADVANTAGEOUS TRADE DEAL FOR THE COMMUNITY.
