Effect of carbon tetrachloride intoxication on metabolism of benzo[a]pyrene in rats and mice

CCl4 injury to the liver interfered with the normal metabolism of benzo[a)py-rene, particularly in relation to the derivatives of 3-hydroxybenzo[a)pyrene. The primary, though not exclusive, alteration in function was related to the reduction of one double bond and the conjugation of metabolites with glucuronic acid. Clearance of ben-zo[a)pyrene from sites of administra-tion and the circulatory system was both delayed and diminished in the injured liver.
