Abstract

This paper has been a challenging and rewarding experience. Through the process of it all, I have come away with a more thorough understanding of therapeutic recreation and the important part it truly plays in the tteatment of substance abuse. It has broadened my perspective on treatment as well as on recreation. I plan to use what I have learned in my professional career as well as in my life. I would like to thank Dr. Kitty Harris and Dr. Tara Perry for the time they took out of their busy schedules to aid me in this process. If not for their patience and encouragement, this project would not have been possible. These two ladies exemplify the idea of caring for their students. May God go with you both. I would also like to thank Mrs. Linda Gregston for the investment that she makes in each of her students. She has truly been a blessing. 1
