The effect of benoxinate HCl on human conjunctival oxygen uptake

Abstract

Human in vivo conjunctival oxygen uptake (CJOU) was measured before and after instillation of one drop of 0.4% benoxinate HCl. No statistically significant difference in CJOU was found before and after instillation of this anaesthetic. This finding suggests that it is valid to use 0.4% benoxinate HCl in small doses to increase patient compliance and improve technical accuracy during CJOU measurements
