In this exhibition catalogue essay for a group exhibition held a Viewfinder Gallery, London, 2008, I consider the genealogy of an approach to photographic image making as an essential ambiguous and ambivalent practice. The catalogue essay was reprinted by the gallery as part of an anthology of exhibition texts in 2009
