By  and Doug MacleodDenny Croy, String Bass, Dave Kida and Doug Macleod

Abstract Doug’s inaugural album for Fresh!, the new imprint label from San Francisco’s audiophile Reference Recordings, clearly demonstrates that the Bard of the Blues has his touch intact. His style has always been firmly rooted in the deep and fertile acoustic blues of the past while steadily moving forward to uncharted musical territory, propelled by his six-string handiwork and percussive foot-play, and always guided by his own design. His music demands undivided attention (headphones are highly reccommended). The title track is sage advice to those afflicted by a pessimistic world view. “Train of Change ” offers reassurance in these troubled times, while the moody ballad “Midnight in Memphis” creates an atmosphere of quiet desolation. The protagonist of the frisky finger- picker “Zu-Zu Woman ” proudly proclaims, “I’m eatin ’ crackers in her bed, ” a sure sign of unconditional lust. The album closes with Doug’s aerobic guitar workout on the optimistic “Welcome In Your Home.” 1 Brand New Eyes 5:4
