Abstract. Hydroxyapatite and magnesium modified hydroxyapatite were deposited on nitrited Ti6Al4V substrates by use of pulsed laser deposition technique. Three target materials consisted of pure hydroxyapatite, magnesium modified hydroxyapatite with Mg content of 1 wt % and 3 wt % were ablated using ArF excimer laser. The obtained coatings have been analyzed using X-ray diffraction, FTIR and AFM methods in order to determine the influence of magnesium on their chemical structure, crystallinity and surface morphology. Doping with low concentration of Mg do not significantly influence the HA morphology but induce osteoblast adhesion. 1
