Effects of Telehealth on Dropout and Retention in Care among Treatment-Seeking Individuals with Substance Use Disorder: A Retrospective Cohort Study

    Get PDF
Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth became a widely used method of delivering treatment for substance use disorders (SUD), but its impact upon treatment engagement and dropout remains unknown. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of adult SUD patients (n = 544) between October 2020 and June 2022 among a cohort of treatment-seeking patients at a nonprofit community behavioral health center in Southwestern Ohio. We estimated the likelihood of treatment dropout using survival curves and Cox proportional hazard models, comparing patients who used telehealth with video, telephone, or solely in-person services within the first 14 days of diagnosis. We also compared the likelihood of early treatment engagement. Results: Patients who received services through telehealth with video in the initial 14 days of diagnosis had a lower hazard of dropout, compared to patients receiving solely in-person services (0.64, 95% CI [0.46, 0.90]), while there was no difference in hazards of dropout between patients who received telephone and in-person services. Early use of telehealth, both via video (5.40, 95% CI [1.92, 15.20]) and telephone (2.12, 95% CI [1.05, 4.28]), was associated with greater odds of treatment engagement compared to in-person care. Conclusion: This study adds to the existing literature related to telehealth utilization and engagement in care and supports the inclusion of telehealth in SUD treatment programs for treatment-seeking individuals

Drought Susceptibility Index; a Preferred Criterion in Screening for Tolerance in Soybean

    Get PDF
Soybean (Glycine max L.) yield and yield related traits are constrained by drought. Adaptation of soybean to changing environment could be improved by exploitation and introgression of diverse germplasm in breeding program. In present study, the response to drought conditions, especially at flowering stage, was evaluated to determine the potential soybean germplasm for future soybean breeding programs in Pakistan. Field experiment was conducted under two water regimes i.e. well-water and water-limited, to assess the effect of drought in seed yield and yield related traits. Although, drought led to overall reduction of ~15 % in thousand seed weight but still some soybean genotypes performed relatively better under water-limited conditions. These genotypes were also tolerant to drought, with a drought susceptibility index of \u3c 0.5. PCA also explained the pattern of variation existing in soybean germplasm grown under given water regimes i.e. well-water and water-limited conditions. The identified soybean genotypes could be a favorable resource to introduce high yielding soybean in local environment

    The Summers

Ronya Othmann’s debut novel narrates the coming of age of Leyla, a Yazidi–Kurdish–German girl. She spends the school year in her mother’s home country of Germany but travels every summer to her father’s home village in Syria, near the Turkish border. She knows its smells and tastes. She knows its stories. She knows where the Yazidi villagers keep their suitcases hidden, should they need to escape again. And she watches from afar, horrified, as ISIS troops move on the village, threatening the lives of her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Leyla’s sexual awakening proves far less traumatic than her growing disenchantment with her German classmates and friends, who appear completely indifferent to the fate of her Yazidi community. Thoughtful and poignant, The Summers addresses issues of gender, sexuality, cultural difference, politics, and identity. Othmann draws readers into multiple worlds, ultimately revealing the hopes and dreams that bind us all together when forces threaten to tear us apart.https://corescholar.libraries.wright.edu/books/1243/thumbnail.jp

Finite Element Analysis of Hip Stem Designs

    No full text
A finite element analysis (FEA) was performed on six hip stem designs. The hip implant designs were then analyzed at forces ranging from 2.5 to 7 kN. These forces were selected because a typical gait cycle generates forces up to 6–7 times the body weight in the hip joint. The FEA results were compared for various stem designs assuming a rectangular cross-section. The design objective for a hip stem is to have a low stress, displacement, and wear at a very high fatigue life. The analysis performed in this paper may aid also in the fatigue testing of implants and/or base the designs for tested materials at a suitable fatigue life. Subsequently, the stems that had the highest stress and displacement models were then optimized for a lower stress and displacement combination. The cross-section that comprised a circle in the medial end and a square at the lateral end was found to provide suitable design characteristics. Fatigue and wear analyses were performed assuming that the implants were made of metal and polyethylene liner

Hot Section Turbine Disk Lifing Philosophies

    No full text
The life prediction of critical gas turbine engine components is carried out using a bank of laboratory test data which is also verified by a comprehensive program on full scale fatigue tests. These tests include carcass for containment, canopy for foreign body ingestion, disks for bolt hole and dovetail/firtree root cracks and blades for thermal shock and fatigue. The life of the majority of these components is limited by low cycle fatigue which eventually is based on ‘initiation’ concepts and first detection of a crack 0.8 mm deep. Safe life design requires a high confidence of 99.9% probability of crack free components. Using safe life design concepts there is a large number of prematurely retired disks from service which have a high potential of useful life left in them. Damage tolerance or fracture mechanics based lifing concepts attempt to utilize this ‘useful’ life by analyzing the cracks. However, these concepts depend on the accuracy of detecting cracks by Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) techniques. The probability of detection curves do not follow a fixed statistical distribution to give sufficient confidence level to fix the next inspection interval. Probabilistic and deterministic fracture mechanics based lifing philosophies are overviewed
