The Catholic Church\u27s Teachings on Suicide

    Get PDF
I did as much research as I could before I ever began to write. Scholarly sources around my topic were more difficult to find then I anticipated as the Catholic Church\u27s teachings about suicide have been changing in recent years. Being such a controversial and changing topic, I wanted to give as much respect and justice to the victims and their loved ones. I took about a week to write the preliminary paper, and another week to edit

The U.S. set an unwelcome record for weather and climate disasters in 2023, with 28 disasters that exceeded more than US$1 billion in damage each. While it wasn’t the most expensive year overall – the costliest years included multiple hurricane strikes – it had the highest number of billion-dollar storms, floods, droughts and fires of any year since counting began in 1980, with six more than any other year, accounting for inflation

The Midnight Incendiary: America\u27s Myth of Black Violence

I went through an extensive researching, writing, and revising process for this essay. I spent most of the Spring 2022 semester researching. I initially investigated the ties between slave patrols and our contemporary police institution, and, after following a winding road of sources and ideas, that topic morphed into a historiography of Southern militia conflict. I read and summarized many sources to find patterns in historical characterizations which I then organized into the interpretive categories I identify in this essay. Once I had the shape of the essay and worked out my argument, I went through many rounds of edits: First, for my ASI 120 class, and then to submit to a previous issue of this journal (which was not accepted, as it was a significantly poorer essay than the version published here). Then, many months later, I revisited the essay for my McGrath application. I edited it once before sending it to my professor, then to send to peer reviewers for comments, and again once I received feedback. I added several layers of analysis, found sources for and analyzed contemporary connections, reorganized my arguments, and rewrote or reworded most of the body of text to finally end up with the essay herein

Thinking outside the Box for Experiential Student Learning: Development of Remote Experiential Learning and Volunteering During the Pandemic

    Get PDF
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, experiential learning for health care professional programs struggled to find clinical rotation sites and provide students in the didactic curricular phase opportunities to apply health education outside of the classroom. Many healthcare sites and community health screening events were prohibited during an extended period of time due to pandemic isolation. As a health educator, exploration of remote experiential learning took creative planning to ensure students were able to apply their medical knowledge in real-life situations, give back to their community according to Marianist charisms, and fulfill healthcare-related volunteer service hour requirements.
