Report on the Implementation of SaaS for Career Education : Insights and Future Direction on Learning Analytics Integration
電気通信大学のキャリア教育は、2005年に学生の職業意識と就職力向上を目指して発足した。その特徴は、早期からWebシステムを導入し、学生の成果物を蓄積し、個別へのフィードバックを可能にする「学修ポートフォリオシステム」として活用を進めてきた。同時に民間企業等の経験者を特任講師として招き、少人数制のワークショップ形式の講義を展開し、学生個別のフィードバックを可能とした。
本報告では、システム仕様の前提となる電気通信大学キャリア教育の経緯や独自の教育手法について詳述した上で、SaaSとして導入した新システムの経緯やメリットについて議論する。学内で進められているラーニングアナリティクスとの連携も含め、現状の課題や今後の展開にも言及している。The University of Electro-Communications (UEC) launched its career education program in 2005 with the aim of enhancing students’ vocational awareness and employability. A key feature of this program was the early adoption of a web-based system that allowed for the accumulation of students’ work and enabled individualized feedback. This system was developed and utilized as a “learning portfolio system.” Simultaneously, the university invited experienced professionals from private companies and other sectors as specially appointed lecturers. These facilitators conducted small-group workshop-style classes, making it possible to provide personalized feedback to individual students.
This report first details the history of UEC’s career education and its unique educational methods, which formed the basis for the system specifications. It then discusses the background and benefits of introducing a new system as a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution. On the Probability Paper
The probability paper (PP) is a kind of graph paper with an inhomogeneous scale, to which outputs of the cumulative distribution of a given statistical data set are plotted. If the data set obeys normal distribution, the plotted points should be aligned, usually with some fluctuations, enabling us to estimate the mean and standard deviation of the data set. Various aspects of PP are discussed from the standpoint of education. The theory behind PP is explained in terms of continuous distribution and it is shown that the inverse transformation of the cumulative distribution, f–1, plays an essential role for producing alignment. PP effectively applies f–1 to the cumulative distribution of the original data set. Two types of f–1 are examined, one for infinite range and the other for finite range. The former function, singular at end points, explains why PP is usually scaled from 1% to 99%. Monte-Carlo simulations are carried out for some 102 data points. It is described how to produce PP sheets and/or PP-based plots using the computer so that PP may be an interesting material for the students of science or engineering major. “UEC Passport Program” activity report
“UEC Passport Program” is a program started in 2011, and 13 years have passed since then. Our goal is to contribute to the improvement and growth of students’ capabilities as researchers and engineers through their independent research. We also have named the combined ability of “the ability to expand and develop one’s field of expertise” and “the ability to explain and discuss with others in different fields”, which will help students succeed as researchers and engineers in the future, “TOPPA-RYOKU: breakthrough ability”. And we are working to develop students’ “TOPPA-RYOKU: breakthrough ability”. Our current activities can be categorized into 4 categories: “class subjects”, “independent experiments as extracurricular activities”, “joint presentations with other universities” and “external presentations”. Implementation and analysis of support for female junior and senior high school students at The University of Electro-Communications in their choice of career paths in science and engineering fields
理工系分野におけるジェンダーギャップの解消を目的として実施している電気通信大学の女子中高生理工系分野進路選択支援プロジェクト「匠ガールプロジェクト」は、2017年から継続して実施してきたことにより、延べ683名の女子中高生に参加いただいた。本稿では2023年度の実施概要及び課題について報告する。また、匠ガールプロジェクト参加者における本学志願数が増加傾向にあることが示され、匠ガールプロジェクトが女子学生比率の向上に対して有効であることが示された。The University of Electro-Communications’ “Takumi-Girl Project”, a project to support female junior and senior high school students in choosing a career path in science and engineering, which aims to increase the ratio of women in science and engineering fields, has also been implemented continuously since 2017, with a total of 683 female junior and senior high school students participating in the project. This report provides an overview of the project’s implementation and issues in fiscal 2023. The results suggest that the number of Takumi-Girl Project participants may be associated with the number of applicants to the university. The Takumi-Girl Project may be one of the factors contributing to the increase in the ratio of female students.departmental bulletin pape
Evaluation Methods for Informatics Competence with a Focus on University Entrance Examinations (Analysis of the Results of the EMIU Informatics Mock Exam Summer 2024 Centered on Programming Problems)
大学入試を念頭において,(1) 一般的な大問中問による学力評価手法,(2)IRT を想定した多肢選択による学力評価手法,(3)CBT を前提とした出題方式による学力評価手法の開発を行っている.その基礎的なデータを収集するため, IRT を想定した多肢選択による学力評価手法及び一般的な大問中問による学力評価手法を検討し,実際に問題を作成し2024年6 月・7 月に「EMIU 情報模試2024 夏」として高校生を対象としたCBT による模擬試験を実施した.この模擬試験の出題分野は,「プログラミング」および「データ分析」とした.学習指導要領では,「プログラミング」は「(3) コンピュータとプログラミング」の「アルゴリズムとプログラミング」の部分に相当し,「データ分析」は「(3) コンピュータとプログラミング」の「モデル化とシミュレーション」の部分「(4) 情報通信ネットワークとデータの活用」のデータ活用の部分に相当する.今後の研究の基礎とするため,一般的な大問中問による学力評価手法による出題では,CBT での実施ではあるが共通テストなどで採用されているマークシートによる出題を前提とした作問を行った.本稿では,特に,プログラミングに関する問題の結果について分析をする.『第66回プログラミング・シンポジウム』開催日時:2025年1月10日 (金) ~ 12日 (日) 会場:ホテルラフォーレ那須、オンラインconference pape
Science Research Class for Tokyo Metropolitan High School Students at The University of Electro-Communications
The Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education and The University of Electro-Communications cooperate to present the Science Research Class for Tokyo Metropolitan high school students. This class is designed to spend several months investigating a topic of science phenomena, and students choose their own theme for their research. High school students learn about laboratory experiments, and then participate in group discussions, poster presentations, and oral presentations. Three days of intensive classes are scheduled in the summer. The class began in 2020 and has been open for 4 years. 69 high school students have completed the class. Nearly all students are satisfied with the class in post questionnaires. Two or three themes are presented at a conference outside the campus every year, and 2 students were enrolled in this university.departmental bulletin pape

Fate of Late-Developing Countries: Incompatibility Between Modernization and Civil Service Reform in Thailand
Thailand began the modernization of its administration in response to the western impact during the mid-19th century. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) recognized that administrative reform was essential for ensuring the stability and sustainable development of the nation. Thus, he established a system to provide salary for civil servants and promoted the westernization of government ministries. However, he was not particularly enthusiastic about introducing civil service examinations. While government positions and educational opportunities were closely tied to court aristocracy, the advancement of the educational system gradually made the monopoly of education impossible for this group, which led to the gradual entry of commoner intellectuals into the bureaucracy. By the time of King Prajadhipok (Rama VII), discussions on the introduction of a merit-based system became concrete in which foreign advisors to the government advocated for its effectiveness. In 1928, civil service examinations were institutionalized. However, this system lasted less than a decade. Thailand, similar to many other late-developing countries, pursued social and economic development under the strong leadership of its rulers; however, this political style was not well-aligned with civil service examinations.departmental bulletin pape
