    No full text
Full-TextIntroduction: Cholera remains a significant public health threat globally, but its impact can be significantly reduced with the right knowledge and correct preventive practices. Conducting a study to provide baseline data and identify knowledge gaps on cholera will benefit at-risk and vulnerable communities. This research aimed to determine the household heads' knowledge about cholera and its prevention in a barangay in the Western Philippines. Methods: A cross-sectional survey using a questionnaire was conducted in an urban barangay in Iloilo City in Western Philippines among 252 randomly selected household heads in May 2023. Data were described, and t-Test for independent samples and one-way ANOVA were used to test for differences. Results: The majority of household heads were generally knowledgeable about cholera and its prevention, but only 51.2% knew that oral rehydrating solution (ORS) could help manage symptoms of cholera. Furthermore, there was a significant difference in knowledge about cholera and its prevention based on sex (t = 2.92; p = 0.004). Conclusions: Household heads understood well and were informed of cholera and its prevention, although there were still some misconceptions. Continuous health education and knowledge assessment are recommended to raise awareness and ensure correct and timely information dissemination regarding cholera

In the conducted Competency-Based Assessment Tool (CBAT) in Mathematics among Grade 5 learners, results revealed that there are competencies that learners failed to master, prompting the researcher to develop instructional materials that offer a novel dimension of learning. Specifically, this study delved into the Development of Flexible Learning Instruction through Progressive, Personalized, Engaging, and Diversified (FLIPPED) Video Media, focusing on its application within the flipped classroom paradigm. This research aims to address three key questions: identifying the least learned competencies of Grade 5 learners in Mathematics, developing video media tailored to these competencies, and assessing the acceptability of the developed video media across various dimensions. Methodologically, the study involved one class of Grade 5 learners from one of the schools in the province of Capiz, alongside six expert evaluators with diverse backgrounds in educational and information technology and Mathematics teaching. Data collection relies on the result of CBAT administered to 25 Grade 5 learners, complemented by an evaluation questionnaire designed to gauge the acceptability of the video media among experts. Findings highlight specific areas of challenge in Grade 5 Mathematics, such as formulating rules for sequence progression, visualizing fraction multiplication, estimating decimal products, identifying base, rate, and percentage, and finding circumference of a circle. The instructional materials developed include sections on learning objectives, discussions, exercises with solutions, and summaries. Expert evaluations uniformly rated the developed video media as "Highly Acceptable" across dimensions of Flexible Learning, Progressive Instruction, Personalized Instruction, Learners' Engagement, and Diversified Instruction. The research findings conclude the efficacy of FLIPPED Video Media in addressing learning gaps and fostering a conducive learning environment that caters to diverse learning needs. Thus, it is recommended that the developed video media be used as a technology-aided instructional material to help improve learners' performance in their least-learned competencies in Grade 5 Mathematics

This study investigated a model that explores the relationship among grade level, peer influence, school support, parent involvement, mathematics interest, and mathematics academic performance. This study utilized a quantitative research design. Two hundred fifty-one randomly selected scholars of Philippine Science High School Western Visayas Campus participated in the study. Google Forms was used to administer the research instruments which are Mathematics Interest Inventory (MII) and the Educational Ecosystem Inventory (EEI). The scholars' mathematics academic performance was classified as "good" when taken as a whole and when categorized by level of parent involvement, peer influence, school support, mathematics interest, and grade level. The scholars' mathematics interest was classified as "moderately interested" when taken as a whole and categorized by grade level and school support. Regardless of grade level, the level of parent involvement was classified as moderate. As a whole, the level of parent involvement, peer influence, and school support was classified as moderate. Significant and positive correlations between parent involvement and peer influence, parent involvement and school support, peer influence and school support, and school support and mathematics interest were also recorded. The students displaying greater interest in mathematics were more inclined to attain higher grades within the PSHSWVC grading system. There was a decline in parental engagement as scholars progress through higher grades. The results of path analysis showed that school support and mathematics interest independently contribute to the prediction of mathematics academic performance, while grade level, parent involvement, and peer influence did not significantly contribute when all other variables were considered. Moreover, peer influence and school support were significant predictors of parent involvement. Mathematics interest has a mediating role in the impact of school support on a scholar's mathematics academic performance

This quantitative descriptive-correlational research determined the level of environmental awareness, environmental attitude, and environmental practices of Grade 12 STEM learners using a Likert scale survey questionnaire. This study also examined the correlation of the environmental awareness, environmental attitude, and environmental practices of learners. Seventy-three (73) Grade 12 STEM learners from a public school in Lambunao, Iloilo, Philippines participated in the study during the first quarter of the academic year 2023-2024. This research utilized two adopted survey instruments to measure the level of environmental awareness, attitude, and practices of learners. The statistical tools employed were mean and standard deviation for descriptive data analysis and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (r) for inferential analysis set at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that the Grade 12 STEM learners have a high level of environmental awareness for both awareness of environmental concepts and the state of the environment and awareness of environmental issues and problems (M=3.45, SD=0.98), high level of environmental attitude or positive attitude (M=3.74, SD=0.93) and a fair level from both practices that needed to be taken into actions to solve environmental problems as well as from practices that are needed to possess a high degree of commitment (M=3.11, SD=1.05).For the relationship between environmental awareness and attitude, environmental attitude and practices, and environmental awareness and practices, Pearson product moment correlation was utilized in the study. There is a weak negative correlation between environmental awareness and attitude (r=-.121, p=.3O8), significant moderate positive correlation between environmental awareness and practices (r= .465, p=.000), and a very weak positive correlation between environmental attitude and practices (r=.15O, p=.2O7). The policy brief formulated based from the findings recommended specifically on the integration of 5Cs learning skills especially in Science subject as it supports the DepEd Order no. 52, series of 2011 entitled, "Strengthening Environmental Education in Public and Private Schools". This DepEd Order mandates all schools to intensify lessons regarding the environment on all Science subjects, use environmental concerns as tools for classroom drills, discussions and activities, and integrate these concerns in related learning areas

This correlational research study aimed to examine the relationship among workload, well-being, coping strategies, and mathematics performance of senior high school STEM learners. The study specifically included 50 Grade 11 STEM learners who were purposively selected from two public secondary schools in the province of Capiz enrolled in the first semester of the school year 2023 - 2024. Instruments utilized for the data collection included a researcher-made Learner's Workload Log (LWL) to measure the time spent by learners on tasks in General Mathematics and Pre-calculus, a Psychological Well-being (PWB) Scale to assess the level of well-being, a Filipino Coping Strategies Scale to measure the coping strategies level and the Grade Point Average (GPA) in General Mathematics and Pre-calculus as an indicator of mathematics performance of STEM learners. The statistical tools used in data analysis were mean, standard deviation, and Spearman rho; all inferential tests were set at a .05 alpha level of significance. Results showed that the level of workload of senior high school STEM learners was heavy. Additionally, the level of well-being among STEM learners was found to be moderate and the level of coping strategies was high. STEM learners' mathematics performance demonstrated a very satisfactory level in General Mathematics and Pre-calculus. Furthermore, the study has shown that there was a significant relationship among workload, well-being, coping strategies, and mathematics performance of senior high school STEM learners. There was a very strong relationship between mathematics performance towards workload and well being; a strong relationship between workload and well-being, coping strategies, and mathematics performance; a moderate relationship between workload and coping strategies; and a weak relationship between well-being and coping strategies. In conclusion, the workload of senior high school STEM learners was overwhelming. Though learners' moderate well-being and high coping strategies show a positive attitude and adeptness in handling diverse situations, learners may still be able to experience fatigue and weariness. However, interventions may be done to enhance their well-being and improve their coping strategies, and continuing to show excellent math skills can be carried out. It is recommended that learners should control and manage an array of activities while having a good disposition in ways that would reflect positive well-being. Teachers may encourage learners to use proactive coping strategies to address their negative feelings and behaviors to effectively manage their workload to strive for even greater success and outstanding performance
