「台湾燕巣会」の結成 : 「馬酔木燕巣会」における台湾の記憶
This paper investigates the early formation of the “Taiwan Ensōkai,” the Taiwan branch of the “Ensō Haiku Association,” by examining the relationships between Japanese and Taiwanese haiku poets that were central to its establishment. Particular attention is given to Hada Gakusui and Shi Kōtō, alumni of the Taichū Normal School, whose post-war reunion is believed to have played a crucial role in the founding of the “Taiwan Ensōkai” by evoking memories of Japan’s colonial period in Taiwan. Pierre Nora’s concept of “sites of memory” (lieu de mémoire) is employed to analyze the significance of the Taichū Normal School and the “Ensō Haiku Association” led by Hada Gakusui. Additionally, this paper examines how the exchanges between Japanese and Taiwanese haiku circles, or poets, are reflected in the writings and haiku of Hada Gakusui and Shi Kōtō, both of whom harbored nostalgic sentiments for Taiwan. Many participants in the “Ensō Haiku Association,” including Hada Gakusui, had deep connections to Taiwan and left behind numerous writings capturing a diverse range of memories related to Taiwan, which may explain the decision to establish a branch of the Ensōkai in Taiwan after the war. In short, this paper aims to analyze the relationship between Hada Gakusui and Shi Kōtō by examining the “sites of memory” at Taichū Normal School and the “Ensō Haiku Association” to elucidate the formation of the “Taiwan Ensōkai”.departmental bulletin pape
Government Expenditure Composition and Long-Run Economic Growth in the Aging Democracy
This paper analyzes how population aging affects government expenditure composition, economic growth, and social welfare under democracy using an overlapping generations model. As public investment and welfare expenditures are financed by income tax, intergenerational conflicts remain in the aged societies. Retired generations, comprising elderly citizens, favor increased income tax rates through increased current welfare expenditures relative to public investment. Working generations, comprising young citizens, favor increased public investment but not increased income tax. Population aging strengthens elderly citizens’ political power, leading to increased taxes and budgets shifting from public investment to current welfare. Hence, population aging deteriorates economic growth and social welfare through democracies. On the other hand, population aging by an increase in longevity enhances capital accumulation by increasing savings for old-age consumption. Furthermore, an increase in longevity also brings survival benefits for young and old generations, allowing them to enjoy their retired lives and returns on public investment. Population aging brings positive direct effects on growth and welfare. Finally, we numerically find an inverted-U-shaped relationship between population aging and growth and welfare because the direct and indirect effects of population aging coexist.departmental bulletin pape
Efficacy and safety of atrial fibrillation ablation in patients aged ≥80 years: a retrospective study
Catheter ablation is the first-line treatment for atrial fibrillation. Although the efficacy and safety of this procedure have been reported in older patients, they might diminish with age. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the safety and effectiveness of atrial fibrillation ablation in patients aged ≥80 years. We retrospectively analyzed the features of the catheter ablation and the subsequent clinical course and outcomes of 100 patients with atrial fibrillation aged ≥80 years who underwent ablation between July 2019 and December 2021 at Tosei General Hospital, Seto, Aichi, Japan. The average duration of atrial fibrillation was 6.0 ± 9.5 months, and 83% of the patients were symptomatic. Approximately 30% of patients developed heart failure, with 15% requiring hospitalization within one year before ablation. After ablation, 93% of patients were atrial fibrillation-free, and none required postoperative hospitalization due to heart failure. However, several complications have been observed, including cardiac tamponade, hematoma at the access site, and postoperative bradycardia. Notably, an enlarged left atrial diameter before ablation is a predictor of complications. In patients aged ≥80 years, atrial fibrillation ablation therapy demonstrated a high non-recurrence rate and may alter the progression of heart failure. Although the incidence of complications was relatively low, caution should be exercised when older patients with enlarged left atrial diameters undergo atrial fibrillation ablation.departmental bulletin pape
ある優生社会の街頭 : 三島由紀夫『美徳のよろめき』をめぐる病者の生
This paper discusses discrimination in Mishima Yukio’s “Bitoku no Yoromeki”. Previous research on this work has discussed sexism from a feminist perspective. However, the existence of a sick male person, who is discriminatorily portrayed in the work, has not been discussed. This paper focuses on this sick person and critically discusses the eugenic thought of the texts concerning illness and disability. The sick person is described as having a disfigured face. Based on the symptoms, the disease is first thought to be syphilis. However, it is also possible that Hansen’s disease could be the cause of similar symptoms. At the time of the publication of the text, the movement for the return of Hansen’s disease patients from sanatoriums was ongoing. The text metaphorizes the disease by not naming it explicitly. The metaphorical illness forms a discriminatory representation of the text. The protagonist, Setsuko, comes into contact with a sick person and fears that the disease may be transmitted to her pregnant child. This is an expression of the inner eugenicist. The sick person is erased from existence by eugenics. Setsuko, who conducts pregnancies and abortions, has eroticism and can be seen as a masochist. Mishima discussed eroticism in the 1950s, referring to masochists and sadists. Mishima argued that eroticism requires resistance, the function of which inevitably excludes the sick, who are represented as the uncanny. The eroticism of the text depends on the presence of the sick. The sick appears again in the text, but they are marked as a minority and discriminatorily erased. The novel of adultery thus divides the majority and the minority, and enlightens the former as citizen. The sick is erased in the narrative. In this way, all aspects of discrimination in eugenic society appear in the texts, and they must be discussed serially.departmental bulletin pape
In recent years, “environmentally friendly enterprise” has become a crucial aspect of producing “highquality” goods for businesses. China has embraced “an economy-environment virtuous cycle” as an objective, with the government enhancing environmental regulations. Companies have integrated new environmental technologies to mitigate environmental impacts across the product lifecycle, enhancing efficiency. This study employs panel data to examine the impact of environmental regulations on the performance of Chinese enterprises. Performance indicators include capital profit margin, profit growth rate, and inventory turnover rate. Environmental regulations cover controls on industrial water discharge volume, sulfur dioxide emissions, and solid waste discharge volume. The study reveals an “inverted U” shaped effect of environmental regulations on corporate performance, initially facilitating and subsequently inhibiting progress. Additionally, this effect varies based on the enterprise’s life cycle stage and geographic location. Moreover, the promoting effect of environmental regulations on corporate performance diminishes under the influence of managerial myopia. The research findings in this paper offer theoretical and empirical support for crafting effective environmental regulation policies and assisting enterprises in adopting eco-friendly practices.本研究は中国国家自然科学基金青年基金(71804195),中国教育部人文社会科学基金青年項目の助成を受けたものです.departmental bulletin pape

Frequency of SARS-CoV-2 antecedent infection in patients with Kawasaki disease
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been found that SARS-CoV-2 antecedent infection can cause multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. However, the frequency of SARS-CoV-2 antecedent infection in Kawasaki disease (KD) is unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency of SARS-CoV-2 infection that preceded the onset of KD. This study is a multi-center observational study. The subjects were patients who were diagnosed with KD at 4 hospitals from April 1, 2020 to August 31, 2022. Serum SARS-CoV-2 IgM and total antibody including IgG levels were measured by the chemiluminescence immunoassay method before and after treatment for KD. A total of 55 patients participated in the study. The first antibody measurement before the initial treatment was performed on a median of 4th days of illness and the second antibody measurement was performed after the initial treatment on a median of 12th days of illness. No patient had a significant increase in SARS-CoV-2 IgM levels in two measurements. Only one patient (1.8%) had elevated total antibodies including IgG, and the patient had a history of COVID-19 6 months before the onset of KD. SARS-CoV-2 antecedent infection before the onset of KD was not observed in this study, and strong association between development of KD and SARS-CoV-2 infection was not suggested.departmental bulletin pape
