Endüstri mühendisliğinde bilgisayar destekli öğrenme uygulaması

Learning is a life-long quest that is vital in today's information based economy. Educational institutions, though not exclusively, play a significant role in an individual's learning journey. Over the last two decades there has been significant research and development in methods of learning and teaching mostly spearheaded by institutions of higher education. At the core of these R&D efforts lie the need for improving the effectiveness of traditional methods of learning and teaching. Motivated by this need we designed and report here a computer aided learning application that helps better teach and learn some of the topics in inventory control and production planning in the discipline of industrial engineering. Computer aided learning environment provides time and location flexibility, enables asynchronicity, self-pacing, and experiential self-learning, extensively utilizes multi-media, and supports multiple types of learning styles. We designed our application in order to take advantage of all the benefits of this environment to reinforce the learning goals associated with our application area. Our application is a learning tool named WashMac Game. The game has three levels that are aligned with the progress of the student. Each level aims to simulate the production and sales process and teaching to calculate the product amounts. There are animations for teaching and understanding more easily and accurate.Öğrenme kelimesi, bilgi edinmek, yetenek ve beceri kazanmak anlamlarına gelmektedir. Öğrenme işi sonucunda yeni yetenekler, davranışlar kazanılır ve bilgi öğrenimi gerçekleşmektedir. Eğitim kurumlarının bilgiye ek olarak kişisel öğrenme üzerinde de etkin bir rolü vardır. Son 20 yılda öğrenme ile ilgili önemli araştırmalar ve gelişimler yaşanmıştır. Klasik öğrenme olarak ifade edilen öğrenme çeşidinde araştırma geliştirmeler sonucunda ilerlediğini ve yerini elektronik öğrenmeye bırakmaya başladığını görüyoruz. Bu araştırmalara istinaden endüstri mühendisliği için bilgisayar destekli öğrenme üzerine bir çalışma yaptık. Envanter kontrolü ve üretim planlama konularını kapsayan bir tasarım hazırladık. Bilgisayar destekli eğitim sayesinde, kullanıcılar zaman ve yer konularında esneklik kazanılabilmektedir. Bir diğer faydası ise kullanıcılar başka bir insana, öğretmene ayrıca ihtiyaç duymadan öğrenim görebilmektedir. Tasarladığımız uygulamanın ismi WashMac Game olup toplamda 3 seviyeden oluşmaktadır. Basitten başlayarak üretim ve satış süreçlerinde üretilecek miktarları hesaplamayı, envanteri takip etmeyi öğretmeyi hedefliyoruz. Öğrenme stillerini baz alarak animasyonlar kullandık. The codes developed for the Data Access Layer (DAL), which is the foundation of most layered applications, increases the time of projects' development phases, and the bugs in these manually written codes makes the data access unreliable. In this thesis, a tool is developed to generate the required codes for DAL. The automatically generated codes using this tool, Data Access Layer Code Generator, decreases the time wasted for DAL development and makes the data access reliable due to their uniform structure. Data Access Layer Code Generator is able to build the foundation of the layered architectures with its user-friendly interfaces integrated on the development platform and with the functionalities provided to the developers.Günümüzün kompleks uygulamalarının operasyonel gereksinimlerini karşılamak üzere katmanlama teknikleri yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Katmansal yapıların temelini oluşturan Veri Erişim Katmanı (DAL) için geliştirilen kodlar, projelerin geliştirme sürelerini uzatmakta ve elle yazılan kodlar içerisindeki hatalar, veri erişimini güvensiz kılmaktadır. Digital exclusion in Turkey: A policy perspective
This article explores the patterns of the digital divide in Turkey and analyzes policies related to this issue. Our analysis reveals that the digital disparities are interwoven with other social inequalities. This finding is parallel to the conclusions of previous research which suggests that digital exclusion can have a 'reinforcing' effect on social and/or economic inequalities. Having considered the current range of policies targeting either ICT access or skills, we argue that techno-centric solutions with huge budgets occupy the policy agenda at the expense of more sophisticated programs that take into account the social context of digital exclusion. These policies fail to address the most disadvantaged groups. Those who are old, disabled, female and reside in rural areas are less likely to be internet users and existing policies do not reach out to these groups.Publisher's VersionAuthor Cop
Financial performance of top 20 airlines
This empricial research article intends to analyse the financial performance of the top 20 airlines in the Word for the period of year 2011 and 2014. In order to measure the financial performance of the airlines on a uniqie base, an hormonic index is propesed by considering performance areas of profitability, operating, efficiency and liquidity. Next, each performance area is defined by using a various of performance ratios. Finally, all airlines companies examined are listed by their harmonic index scores. The total assets of the 20 biggest airlines are amounted over 54 billion is the biggest ailines. On the other hand, the highest revenue generated by Luftansa in 2011, 2012 and 2013 over $40 billion per year The empricial results show that the worst scores of harmonic index refer American Airlines in 2011, Soutwest in 2012, China Eastern Airlines in 2013 and Quantas Airways in 2014, while the best scores of harmonic index point Delta in 2011, Hainan Airlines in 2012 and EasyJet in 2013 and 2014. This analysis supports that the measurement of financial performance based upon total revenuue or profitability is somehow weak and may be extented by including other indicators.Publisher's Versio
Compressive spectral method for the simulation of the nonlinear gravity waves
PubMed ID: 26911357In this paper an approach for decreasing the computational effort required for the spectral simulations of the fully nonlinear ocean waves is introduced. The proposed approach utilizes the compressive sampling algorithm and depends on the idea of using a smaller number of spectral components compared to the classical spectral method. After performing the time integration with a smaller number of spectral components and using the compressive sampling technique, it is shown that the ocean wave field can be reconstructed with a significantly better efficiency compared to the classical spectral method. For the sparse ocean wave model in the frequency domain the fully nonlinear ocean waves with Jonswap spectrum is considered. By implementation of a high-order spectral method it is shown that the proposed methodology can simulate the linear and the fully nonlinear ocean waves with negligible difference in the accuracy and with a great efficiency by reducing the computation time significantly especially for large time evolutions.The author wishes to express thanks to Prof. Dr. James T. A global optimal control methodology and its application to a mobile robot model
A global optimal control algorithm is developed and applied to an omni-directional mobile robot model. The aim is to search and find the most intense signal source among other signal sources in the operation region of the robot. In other words, the control problem is to find the global extremum point when there are local extremas. The locations of the signal sources are unknown and it is assumed that the signal magnitudes are maximum at the sources and their magnitudes are decreasing away from the sources. The distribution characteristics of the signals are unknown, i.e. the gradients of the signal distribution functions are unknown. The control algorithm also doesn't need any position measurement of the robot itself. Only the signal magnitude should be measured via a sensor mounted on the robot. Reversible film formation from nano-sized PNIPAM particles below glass transition
Reversible film formation process from nano-sized Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) microgel particles were studied during heating-cooling cycles at various rates. Photon transmission technique was used and transmitted photon intensity I (tr) was monitored during heating-cooling cycles. The increase and decrease in I (tr) during heating and cooling was explained with the void closure and void reconstruction processes, and the corresponding activation energies were measured. It was observed that PNIPAM microgels required less energy during reconstruction of voids than their closure.Publisher's VersionQ3WOS:00024303250000
A software process assessment model and a tool for XP@SCRUM agile method

How do mobile technologies affect work and private lives? The case of Turkish banking professionals
Mobile technologies (MTs) became important part of infrastructure in service industries. The impacts of MT usage in work are shown to be significant; improving the productivity, responsiveness, effectiveness and flexibility of companies, while reshaping the work place organization and making employees accessible on a 7/24 basis. However, there are great differences in terms of the types and levels of these impacts on organizations and individuals as the industry, region/country changes. Moreover, not much is known about the effects of MTs in developing countries like Turkey where there is a rapidly increasing mobile penetration (mobile phone and internet subscription rates) which is a critical infrastructure component of mobile working.Turkey has quite an advanced banking industry that has went through serious industrial restructuring. Banking industry has always been among the early adapters and first users of new information and communication technologies, as well as first appliers of new organizational development and human resource management techniques. In the last few years, mobile technologies has become key technologies for banks and accordingly, the usage of mobile devices by banking professionals for work purposes increased. As happened in other new information technologies and human resources systems, experiences of banking industry in mobile technology usage at work-place can provide best practices or lessons for practitioners form other industries.This study tries to provide insights on the perceptions of employees in the Turkish banking industry, about the impact of these technologies on their work practices and on their private lives. A structured survey is carried out with 107 white collar professionals from 5 major retail banks in Turkey. By conducting Factors Analysis and correlation analysis, 8 main factors are identified that represents the impacts of MT usage for work purposes and their interrelations with eachother and demographic factors are explored.Findings reveal that intensity of mobile device usage is still not high in banking industry. Employees perceive the positive impacts of mobile working on information and knowledge supply chain, time management of their organization,. Time management is one of the issues occurred due to mobile working. Attention and focus on meetings and interviews seems to be challenged due to parallel usage of mobile devices in meetings. There are correlations between feeling "Control, pressure, demand for responsiveness and workload" and intensity of mobile device usage and continous accessibility. Similarly, improvements in information and knowledge/flow and meeting organizations are correlated to the impacts of mobile working on productivity, quality and work-life balance. Research showed that the perceptions of employess about the implications of mobile work on "productivity, effectiveness and work-life balance" and "Attention and Focus on Group work like Meetings and Interviews" vary by gender, and on "Multitasking and work-shifting" vary by age. Education level also affects the perception on "Productivity, effectiveness and work-life balance".
