AN EX POST FACTO STUDY ON DISASTER PREVENTION AND RISK REDUCTION EDUCATION IMPLEMENTATION IN SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOOLS IN INDONESIA

    Get PDF
Indonesia is taking proactive steps to enhance disaster resilience and safeguard its citizens through the implementation of the Satuan Pendidikan Aman Bencana (SPAB). However, in disaster contexts, children with special needs and disabilities (SEND) are frequently overlooked. To further improve SPAB implementation, this research aims to investigate the cause-and-effect relationships between the compliance-based status of disaster prevention and risk reduction education in special education schools, the challenges teachers face, and the strategies employed in teaching disaster education to children with special needs and disabilities. The study employed ex post facto research design to investigate the cause-and-effect relationships between variables. Data from interviews and brief surveys were analysed using the phi coefficient, a nonparametric tool that assesses the strength and direction of correlations between variables. The researchers collected information from twenty-three special education teachers, and thirteen school principals and public relations officers across twelve special education schools in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The results suggest that compliance-based implementation has an inverse effect on the main challenges that teachers encounter. As the quality of compliance with the specific provisions in SPAB increases, the barriers to teaching disaster education among students with special needs and disabilities decrease. However, it is important to consider that not all challenges that emerged during the implementation of disaster education were influenced by mere compliance with the SPAB provisions

EDUCATING THE HEART OF A PILGRIM: IN CONVERSATIONS WITH DILEXIT NOS AND SPES NON CONFUNDIT

    Get PDF
Christians are pilgrims on this earth journeying towards the fulfilment of time. At the same time, they are also journeying along so many different axes of this world. Harmonizing the two journeys presents the Christians with a never-ending task of spiritually revitalizing themselves. The excess of progressing through secular journey as Christians brings a lot of toils to the center of their spirituality, the heart. Pope Francis's recent encyclic, Dilexit Nos, provides us with insights into the spiritual capacity of the heart. Especially his treatment of St. Ignatius of Loyolas Spiritual Exercises on the human heart may provide us with inspiration on the heart as the source of spiritual energy for journeying on the pilgrimage in this world. Applying different literatures of theology of spirituality to read the Encyclic, this paper will elaborate on the role of the Exercises in nurturing our heart as the locus of spiritual pilgrimage. In combination with Pope Francis bull for the Jubilee of 2025, Spes Non Confundit, we can conclude that the sign of heart ready for a spiritual pilgrimage lies in its ability to grow eschatological hope. The spiritual pilgrimage of Christians needs to be based on the capacity of the heart to hope in the process towards the fulfillment of Gods Kingdom

Yesus: Mengubah Duka Menjadi Sukacita sebuah Studi Naratif atas Teks Lukas 7:11-17 (Yesus Membangkitkan Anak Muda di Nain)

    Get PDF
As the great Physician, Jesus healed the sick in more or less two commonly used ways, namely by Word and action.  In His actions, Jesus used materials, such as using earth to blind people's eyes (cf. Mk 10:46-52; Jn 9:6) In addition, there are other phenomena where Jesus with His power healed the sick with His Word. For example, in the context of the resurrection of the young man in Nain (Luke 7:11-17). There are two purposes for writing this article. Firstly, to introduce the reader to the narrative method of single tradition texts such as Luke 7:11-17. Secondly, this article aims to introduce the general public to the figure of Jesus who performed miracles with His Word and actions and their correlation with the creation story of Gen 1:26 (creating man with the Word) and Gen 2:7 (creating man from the dust of the ground). The method used in writing this article is a literature study with the Bible as the main source and several books and articles that are in accordance with the theme discussed.  The researcher used narrative analysis for the text of Luke 7:11-17 because there is no interpretation that uses the narrative method for the text of Luke 7:11-17. It can be concluded that the text of Luke 7:11-17 describes the figure of Jesus who shows His divinity. Through the Word of Jesus, He is able to resurrect a dead person. In addition, the social relationship between Jesus and people who experience suffering, widows, and marginalized groups can be used as an example for Christians today.

Exploring Trauma, Memory, and Identity Formation in ‘The School for Good Mothers’ by Jessamine Chan

    Get PDF
This article examines the links between trauma and memory and implications for identity in Jessamine Chan's novel, The School for Good Mothers. It describes how intergenerational trauma impacts Frida (the protagonist) and her interactions with Harriet from the respective perspectives of psychoanalytic trauma theory and pluralistic trauma models. Based on the analysis, Frida's identity and behaviours are significantly shaped by unresolved childhood trauma and social expectations related to motherhood. Hence, the novel critiques institutional approaches to dealing with trauma that rely on surveillance and standardisation as opposed to identifying and resolving deeper psychological issues. For example, the continued monitoring presented in the novel is a form of ongoing traumatisation and mirrors contemporary concerns about privacy, autonomy, and mental health. This research contributes to the field of trauma studies by focusing on trauma as a complexity of experiences based on individual experiences, traumatic experiences within family systems, and external societal pressures, particularly in the experiences of mothers. Lastly, this research illustrates, through multiple lenses, why trauma should be treated individually and how universalised approaches to trauma are limited at best when addressing complex trauma in institutional contexts

From Page to Screen: The Plot Transformation of Roald Dahl's Matilda into Matthew Warchus's Movie

    No full text
This article discusses the adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel Matilda (1988)into the movie Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical (2022), directed by Matthew Warchus. This research focuses on the transformation of intrinsic elements, which is the plot of the novel to the movie. The transformation of the novel into the movie is classified as the telling-to-showing mode. The transformation from written text to audio-visual media involves changes such as subtractions and additions, which are influenced by the differences in the mediums of expression. The three main issues discussed in this article are (1) the transformations of the plot in the novel into the movie, (2) the ideology reflected in the works by the author and the adapter, and (3) the motives of the adapter. This research uses a comparative method with Linda Hutcheon's Theory of Adaptation and Roland Barthes's semiotics. The findings show the ideology of patriarchy by the author in the novel and the ideologies of children's education rights and feminism by the adapter in the movie. Furthermore, this study reveals the motives of the adapter, which include personal motives, as reflected in the ideological changes, and economic lure motives, demonstrating how creative and commercial factors shape the adaptation process
