ãTwenty varied pairs of streetscape images with and without utility poles and electric wires were shown to twenty-one participants in the experiment, who rated them on six impression scales. The average rating values revealed the three following tendencies. The preference rating discrepancies between scenes with and without utility poles and electric wires grow larger as (a) initial scene preference values increase (b) electric wires backed by open sky are removed, and (c) electric wires in front of scenic buildings are removed.departmental bulletin pape
