    What is CLIL and How can it be Implemented in Local Society?

    This study investigates the possibility of the implementation of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in Japanese education based on a literature review of the rationale behind CLIL and its practice in European countries. CLIL is a teaching approach that simultaneously promotes new knowledge construction and language proficiency. CLIL was introduced in the 1990s, and numerous research findings on this topic have been reported since then. Close investigations of CLIL effectiveness reveal both positive and negative aspects. In this report, based on the findings of Dalton-Puffer (2008a), some suggestions will be made to the improve the current CLIL approach for Japanese English learners in tertiary levels by making a harmony of CLIL classrooms and non-CLIL EFL classrooms

    日本の吹奏楽におけるポピュラー音楽の導入 ― Band Journal 誌の内容分析から ―

     吹奏楽曲・クラシック音楽が主たるレパートリーとなる吹奏楽において、ポピュラー音楽系楽曲の導入の動向を明らかにすべく、吹奏楽専門誌の内容分析をおこなった。その結果、1970 年代から90 年代にかけてポピュラー音楽の採択率は増加したが、2000 年代以降は減少しむしろクラシック音楽の採択率が増加していることがわかった。その理由のひとつとして、コンクール対策上、ポピュラー音楽の必要性が失われている点を指摘した。A content analysis of a Japanese magazine was performed for the purpose of proving the following 2 hypotheses. 1) After 1970’s, pop music was added to the repertoire in wind music. 2) After that, repertoire of pop music kept on increasing. The results indicated that the former was proved, however the latter wasn’t. Another finding was that classical music repertoire has increased remarkably after 2000’s. As a conclusion, the reason for this increase may be the strategy to achieve good results in the contests of wind music

    Learner Ability Calibration: A Work in Progress

     Calibration is the degree of correspondence between a learner’s perceived ability to successfully complete a task and actual ability demonstrated. Oral presentations evaluated by explicit criteria were utilized to examine learner ability beliefs assessed by a pretest (learner self-report), then demonstrated and assessed by a post-test (instructor evaluation) based on four criteria. Results suggest learners tended to over-estimate their abilities on eye contact, the use of gestures, and speaking time (length of presentation) with statistical significance, while underestimating their fluency ability though not statistically significant

    Recently, the system of employment has changed; it is said that career education is important. In this paper, I explore and clearly describe career education on `Home economics\u27 textbooks. My findings suggest (1) the characteristics and cases of `housework\u27 and `occupational work\u27were found in many textbooks. (2) `the diversity of employment\u27 and `how to work\u27 is frequently described in recent years. (3) one textbook specifically pick up `what vocational skills are needed\u27. (4) `life time\u27 or `working hours\u27 are also featured in textbooks for junior high and elementary school. And `work-life balance\u27 has also been described related topics. It is hoped that the text contents correspond to the diversity of working and living in the future
