Formulation of Castor Leaf Extract as a Propestic Pesticide to Control Shallot Caterpillar Pest Spodoptera Exigua Hubn
One of the crops that can be cultivated in drylands is shallots. Spodoptera exigua Hubn is the main pest that attacks shallot plants. The purpose of writing this article is to review the results of previous research on jatropha leaves as a vegetable peticide with various extracts so that it can be known which extract is the most optimal as a control of onion caterpillar pests. The method used in this writing is to collect and process data sources from previous research published in scientific articles, books, and discussion results. The results showed that active compounds such as saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and phenols in Jatropha leaves extract significantly increased pest mortality and decreased pest feeding activity. Higher extract concentrations were directly proportional to greater negative effects on pests, highlighting the potential of falak nut leaves as an effective and environmentally friendly plant-based pesticide
Profile of Learners Argumentation Ability on Socio-Scientific Issues
This study aims to determine the profile of students' argumentation skills at MTs Idrisiyyah, Tasikmalaya Regency, in the context of Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI), which includes issues related to science and society based on the components of scientific argumentation from the Toulmin model. The study used a quantitative descriptive method; as many as 63 Grade VIII learners participated. The results of the analysis showed that the ability to claim was excellent (86%), but argumentation support such as data (64%), warrant (32%), qualifier (30%), and backing (27%) was still low. This finding indicates that although learners can convey claims well, they have difficulty supporting these claims with strong data and arguments. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for educators in designing more effective learning strategies related to the development of argumentation skills in the context of SSI
Biodiversity and Distribution of Gastropods in Relation to Shrimp Pond Effluents in the Intertidal Zone of Sambelia, East Lombok
Intertidal biota consist of various invertebrate organisms that inhabit coastal aquatic environments and are highly responsive to fluctuations in water quality. Environmental changes induced by shrimp pond waste discharge can substantially influence the composition and diversity of intertidal biota communities. As a result, water quality serves as a critical determinant in maintaining the ecological balance and sustainability of coastal ecosystems. This study aims to analyze gastropod diversity within the intertidal zone near a shrimp pond waste discharge site and assess water quality based on the diversity index in Labuan Pandan, Sambelia Village, East Lombok. The research was conducted between June and November 2023, with data collected from five sampling stations located directly in front of the discharge site. A total of 40 gastropod species, classified into 32 genera and 22 families, were identified. The highest Diversity Index (H') was recorded at station 5 (2.503), whereas the lowest value was observed at station 2 (1.569). The highest Uniformity Index (e) was found at station 4 (0.947), while the lowest was at station 3 (0.811). The Dominance Index (D) was highest at station 2 (0.245) and lowest at station 5 (0.112). Sediment analysis across all stations revealed two predominant substrate types: loamy sand and sandy loam
Literature Review: The Potential of Phenolic Compounds as Allelopathic Agents in Mangifera indica
Phenolic compounds are a group of secondary metabolites identified as having significant roles in various ecophysiological processes, including allelopathic activity. In Mangifera indica (mango), phenolic compounds contribute to chemical interactions between plants by releasing allelopathic substances that influence the growth and development of surrounding plant species. This study aims to review the potential of phenolic compounds in M. indica as allelopathic agents, focusing on identifying dominant types of phenolic compounds, allelopathic mechanisms, and their ecological impacts on plant communities. The research method employed is a literature review involving a search for relevant sources on Google Scholar covering the period from 2010 to 2024. Based on a review of various studies, it has been demonstrated that phenolic compounds in M. indica possess significant potential to inhibit the growth of competitors and can be utilized in environmentally friendly agricultural management
Enhancing Students Metacognitive Awareness and Scientific Reasoning through the Quantum Learning Model in High School
Students’ limited ability to connect theoretical concepts with real-life phenomena, coupled with monotonous lecture-based teaching, has led to low engagement in learning. This study investigates the effect of the Quantum Learning model on students’ metacognitive skills and scientific reasoning. Using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group, the study involved 41 tenth-grade students at SMA 1 Labuapi, divided into an experimental group (n = 20) and a control group (n = 21), selected through saturated sampling. The Metacognitive Skills Scale (MSS), adapted from Mustafa and Nuray, and a scientific reasoning test based on the Classroom Test of Scientific Reasoning (CTSR) developed by Lawson, were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests at a significance level of α = 0.05. Results showed significant improvement in both groups, with the experimental group experiencing greater gains in metacognitive skills (mean diff. = -20.050; SD = 5.624; p = 0.000) and scientific reasoning (mean diff. = -32.200; SD = 5.978; p = 0.000) compared to the control group (metacognitive: -11.905; SD = 5.558; scientific reasoning: -14.619; SD = 5.826; both p = 0.000). These findings indicate that the Quantum Learning model is effective in enhancing metacognitive awareness as well as scientific reasoning and is recommended for use in science education to improve student engagement and thinking skills
