Implementering av teamtreningsprogrammet TeamSTEPPS® for bachelorstudenter i sykepleie: lærernes erfaringer
In today\u27s health service, most work takes place in teams. Effective and efficient teamwork is essential to ensure quality in a specialized and complex health service. In 2018 to 2020, teachers in a Bachelor of Nursing Education took part in an implementation of the TeamSTEPPS team training program. The program emphasis to train and practice four essential teamwork skills; communication, leadership, situation monitoring and mutual support. This study aims to explore teachers\u27 experiences of implementing a team training program for a cohort of nursing students. The study used a qualitative exploratory design. The sample consisted of 11 teachers in the bachelor\u27s degree program in nursing, divided into three focus groups. An inductive content analysis was conducted. The analysis resulted in one overarching theme, "learning yourself in order to learn further". This was generated from two categories: Category 1) "Contributes to professional confidence", based on the three subcategories "useful in a professional formation process", "provides common language and understanding", and "challenges to guidance in both procedural training and team skills". Category 2) "Follow-up is of great importance", based on the two subcategories "opportunity to make your own choices as a teacher is important" and "implementation requires resources and training".I dagens helsetjeneste foregår det meste av arbeidet i team.
In the future there will be more patients in need of care and fewer nurses. Relatives will have a more extensive caring role, which makes nurses’ collaboration with relatives important. The aim of the study was to investigate nurses’ attitudes towards involving relatives and see if there were differences between nurses in the municipal health service and hospitals. In addition, whether there were conditions that influenced their attitudes. The study was cross-sectional using a questionnaire (Importance in Nursing Care – Nurses’ Attitudes (FINC – NA) with a convenience sample of nurses from villages, densely populated areas, and small towns in central Norway (N = 318). No differences were found between nurses in the municipal health service and hospitals, and it was usual to show care for relatives. Relatives were seen as a resource for patients, and as an important collaboration partner. Nurses with further education had more positive attitudes.
The essay sheds light on existential crisis and love within a family affected by dementia, viewed from a sister\u27s perspective. Through examples, it highlights family dynamics such as powerlessness, disappointment, and grief. These relational and psychological dynamics occur «beside» the person with dementia and are identity-altering, potentially influencing roles and values within the family. The essay incorporates reflections on love and vulnerability from theologian and philosopher Knud Ejler Løgstrup and nurse and philosopher Kari Martinsen. It points out how these phenomena are fundamental prerequisites for people to relate to one another. Such insights can serve as a driving force for existential serenity in a world filled with uncertainty and chaos for those close to people with dementia. By balancing perception and understanding and focusing on the ethical demand, the essay suggests that one can find spiritual guidance and strength to navigate challenging times.
Nordic Reindeer Husbandry Conference 2025, 12-14 February, Alta, Norway: Reindeer Husbandry in an unpredictable future
Climate change, increasing land use pressures on the use of land, challenges and necessary adaptation are factors that lead to uncertainty for reindeer husbandry in the future. In collaboration with NKJ (The Nordic Joint Committee for Agricultural and Food Research) and RUF (Reindriftens utviklingsfond), NIBIO (Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy) invites to a reindeer husbandry conference at Scandic Hotel Alta, 12th – 14th February 2025. The main topics of the conference are climate change and challenges of current and future land use. The conference will be divided into two parts: Part 1 (12th – 13th February) is mainly for researchers and is held in English but is also open to others. Part 2 (13th – 14th February) targets reindeer herders, administration/management and researchers, but others with an interest in reindeer husbandry can participate. Translation will be provided
Kommunal kannibalisme?
The shortage of healthcare personnel is an increasing problem in Norway. Municipalities are attempting to recruit nurses by offering incentives beyond normal salary (recruitment bonuses). In this article, we examine this phenomenon through document analysis of public governance documents and relevant media and news articles, in light of sociological theories on collective action. In summary, our analysis shows the following: (a) Municipalities implement their own recruitment measures to meet their obligations by offering recruitment bonuses, (b) such recruitment measures are often perceived to lead to competition between municipalities with some negative consequences, and (c) the collective consequences of using recruitment bonuses appear to be little discussed in research. Our conclusion is that these recruitment practices are rational for the individual municipality, as they have a limited repertoire of available means to solve their staffing problems. Nevertheless, the practice can be criticized for having negative consequences for the municipalities as a whole. It is costly, can lead to "poaching" of healthcare personnel across municipalities, and limits the possibilities for municipalities to come up with more collectively rational solutions.
The Final-over-Final Condition: Not a syntactic universal
The Final-over-Final Condition (FOFC) (Sheehan, Biberauer, Roberts, and Holmberg 2017) purports to be a universal word order constraint. In this article, we challenge this claim and demonstrate that the FOFC is of a statistical nature: It is a relativized¸ non-absolute version of cross-categorial harmony, where only a head-final projection dominating a head-initial projection is ruled out among the disharmonic configurations displaying different head directionalities. The cross-categorial generalizations in the World Atlas of Languages, referred to by Sheehan et al. (2017) in order to illustrate the crosslinguistic validity of the FOFC, are shown to be useless for determining head-directionality, given that they systematically gloss over functional categories. The Mandarin Chinese head-final split CP dominating a uniformly head-initial extended verbal projection and TP serves as a case study here, because it has challenged the FOFC since its very beginning. The numerous efforts to make the Chinese CP “FOFC-compliant”, the latest being Biberauer (2017), are shown to be unsuccessful and to ignore well-established principles of Chinese syntax. The data from Chinese thus add to the evidence from other languages likewise undermining the FOFC
The Workspace as a source of hierarchy in extended projections
Extended projections (EPs) in natural languages have several properties which have not yet been explained. (i) EPs conform to a Hierarchy of Projections (HoP), a crosslinguistically similar hierarchical arrangement of semantically grounded categories. (ii) Each token of an EP is linear, in the sense that it has a single dimension (with specifiers and adjuncts stripped out, it is a string). (iii) HoPs are rooted in a lexical category with conceptual content at the bottom, and a succession of functional elements above. I argue that these properties motivate a particular architecture of the workspaces in which sentences are constructed. I model the workspace as a Finite State Automaton (FSA) with a monotonicity property which underpins hierarchy. The FSA starts from a lexical category (cf. (iii)), `projecting\u27 it into an EP. Transitions correspond to applications of Merge, and states are stages in the derivation. The sequence of states in a path from start to accepting state is a string, the EP (cf. (ii)). The HoP is then the entire FSA, arranged with the start at the bottom and the final state, the complete clause or noun phrase, at the top (cf. (i))
A considerable amount of newly qualified nurses working at Norwegian hospitals are seeking alternative employment. The working environments affect nurses\u27 occupational health and their desire to remain at their jobs. There is little up-to-date knowledge concerning the working environment in Norwegian hospitals. The purpose of this study was to gain knowledge about newly qualified nurses\u27 experiences of the organizational and psychosocial working environments in somatic wards, using an occupational health theoretical perspective. The study had a qualitative design, with data collection from semi-structured individual interviews with nine newly qualified nurses. The data material was analyzed based on Malterud\u27s systematic text condensation. The nurses experienced that the working environment was characterized by high workloads, role challenges, and a discrepancy between effort and reward. Furthermore, they described being a newly qualified nurse as professionally challenging. They experienced a high degree of social support from colleagues, but their experiences with management were varied. The findings suggest a discrepancy between job demands and job resources, which, according to theories about occupational health, can lead to physical and psychological stress. Strengthening nurses\u27 resources to meet job demands will be important in order to lessen the consequences of job demands, promote occupational health and hopefully contribute to keeping more nurses in work.
This report is based on the results from a Nordic network project funded by The Nordic Joint Committee for Agricultural and Food Research (NKJ) during the years 2021-2022. This network was created to encourage further cross-border discussions about the prospects of winter feeding of reindeer. In reindeer husbandry winter feeding has increased during the last decades due to competing land use activities and climate change. Herders in Norway, Sweden and Finland have previously raised concerns about the benefits and risks associated to the increasing need of winter feeding of reindeer in all three countries.
The report, published in Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and North Sámi, and covers the main findings from a series of preparatory workshops within each country and a main workshop in Arvidsjaur 8-9 June 2022. During the network activities, reindeer herders, researchers and managers discussed the effects of feeding on reindeer behaviour, herding practices and the environment. The two main topics discussed at the preparatory workshops were 1) the short- and long-term effects of winter feeding on reindeer behaviour, and 2) local to large scale effects of feeding on the environment and the natural pastures. During the main workshop, discussions were held about reasons for feeding of reindeer, the preconditions of feeding in the three countries, how winter feeding is usually performed, and best practices in relation to reindeer behaviour and the environment.
The work aimed at promoting knowledge exchange on winter feeding of reindeer among all participants to help find solutions and mitigation actions to avoid changes in reindeer behaviour and negative effects of feeding on reindeer, reindeer herding and the environment. The report is aimed at herders, managers, as well as other land users, authorities and policymakers to give information on what was discussed and a summary of the challenges related to winter feeding and effects on reindeer behaviour and reindeer husbandry, and the environment.
Rangifer Report No 23 is the North Sámi version of the report. The Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian versions have already been published (Rangifer Report No 18, 19 and 20 respectively).
