Automatic alignment for three-dimensional tomographic reconstruction

    Get PDF
In tomographic reconstruction, the goal is to reconstruct an unknown object from a collection of line integrals. Given a complete sampling of such line integrals for various angles and directions, explicit inverse formulas exist to reconstruct the object. Given noisy and incomplete measurements, the inverse problem is typically solved through a regularized least-squares approach. A challenge for both approaches is that in practice the exact directions and offsets of the x-rays are only known approximately due to, e.g. calibration errors. Such errors lead to artifacts in the reconstructed image. In the case of sufficient sampling and geometrically simple misalignment, the measurements can be corrected by exploiting so-called consistency conditions. In other cases, such conditions may not apply and we have to solve an additional inverse problem to retrieve the angles and shifts. In this paper we propose a general algorithmic framework for retrieving these parameters in conjunction with an algebraic reconstruction technique. The proposed approach is illustrated by numerical examples for both simulated data and an electron tomography dataset

A new coalgebraic semantics for positive modal logic

    Get PDF
Positive Modal Logic is the restriction of the modal local consequence relation defined by the class of all Kripke models to the propositional negation-free modal language. The class of positive modal algebras is the one canonically associated with PML according to the theory of Abstract Algebraic Logic. Celani and Jansana established a Priestley-style duality the category of positive modal algebras and the category of K+-spaces. In this paper, we establish a categorical equivalence between the category K+ of K+-spaces and the category Coalg(V) of coalgebras of a suitable endofunctor V on the category of Priestley spaces

    Estimating cardinalities with deep sketches

    Get PDF
We introduce Deep Sketches, which are compact models of databases that allow us to estimate the result sizes of SQL queries. Deep Sketches are powered by a new deep learning approach to cardinality estimation that can capture correlations between columns, even across tables. Our demonstration allows users to define such sketches on the TPC-H and IMDb datasets, monitor the training process, and run ad-hoc queries against trained sketches. We also estimate query cardinalities with HyPer and PostgreSQL to visualize the gains over traditional cardinality estimators

G-CORE a core for future graph query languages

    Get PDF
We report on a community effort between industry and academia to shape the future of graph query languages. We argue that existing graph database management systems should consider supporting a query language with two key characteristics. First, it should be composable, meaning, that graphs are the input and the output of queries. Second, the graph query language should treat paths as first-class citizens. Our result is G-CORE, a powerful graph query language design that fulfills these goals, and strikes a careful balance between path query expressivity and evaluation complexity
