    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING DRILL STRATEGY IN IMPROVING STUDENT’S MOTIVATION IN PRONOUNCING ENGLISH WORDSAT THE SECOND YEAROF MTS BATU BELAH KAMPAR REGENCY

    This subject of this research is the second year of Junior High School (MTSTI) Batu Belah. And the object of this research is the effectiveness of using drill strategy in improving students motivation in pronouncing English word. There is one main instruments used to gather the data along this research. It is observation. It is used to know the applying drill strategy in improving students motivation in pronouncing English word in the classroom . In collecting the data, the researcher used T- test. And the formula is follows: T – Test : t o = M SE 1 - M M1 – M2 2 Based on the data analyzed, the writer finally found that the application of Drill strategy highly improved the students’ motivation in pronouncing English words. It was proved that Alternative Hypothesis was accepted and Null Hypothesis was rejected, because the score of t –test (t ) was greater than the score of level of significance for 5 % (t statistical observed ), or 91.111 > 2.571. It meant that drill strategy was more effective to improve the students motivation in pronouncing English word

    The purpose of this research was to know the ability of second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah Rambah in summarizing reading text. We know that English has been taught since Elementary School, three years in Junior High School. Those, the second year students of Senior High School have studied English starting from the first year. Summarizing text is one of the teaching reading techniques used by English teacher in SMA Muhammadiyah Rambah, and Reading material is always taught well by the teacher. But, when the teacher asks the students to summarize reading text, many students make incorrect summary. Thus, the writer is interested to do a research dealing with this matter to know the students’ ability in summarizing reading text. The writer formulates the problems of this research into how is the students’ ability of second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah Rambah in summarizing reading text? The subject of this research was the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah Rambah and the object of this research was ability of summarizing reading text of second year students. The population was the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah Rambah. There were 113 students in three classes; they were 35 students in IPA class, 40 students in IPS 1, and 38 students IPS 2. The writer took 20% of them. The instruments of this study were test. In analyzing the data, the writer used Scoring Guide of ESL Composition Profile. Then, to find the level of students’ ability in summarizing reading text, the writer used formula as follows: M = ∑ Fx N Notes: M = Mean N = Total number of the students’ score ∑Fx = Total number of score The last, to classify their level in summarizing, the writer used category of scoring that also we also can see in technique of analyzing data. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the result of the students’ ability in summarizing reading text is categorized in to enough. The average score of students’ score in summarizing is 65.68 which is located at the category 60-69%

    The main focus of this research was to find out the tenth grade students’ listening comprehension in descriptive text and the most dominant inhibiting factor affecting students’ listening comprehension at State Senior High School 6 Kundur. The researcher formulated the problems into two research questions that would be answered by using descriptive quantitative research, they were; a) How is the tenth grade students’ listening comprehension in descriptive text at State Senior High School 6 Kundur? b) What is the most dominant inhibiting factor affecting the students’ listening comprehension at the Tenth Grade of State Senior High School 6 Kundur? This research had one variable that was listening comprehension as a dependent variable. This research was a descriptive quantitative research. The subject of this research was the Tenth Grade Students of State Senior High School 6 Kundur. The researcher used total sampling to take the sample. The researcher took all of the students from 2 classes. So, the sample of this research was 80 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used listening test and questionnaire. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS 23. Based on the result of analysis, the tenth grade students’ listening comprehension in descriptive text at State Senior High School 6 Kundur was categorized into “less level” at mean score 33.9375 and the most dominant inhibiting factor affecting the students’ listening comprehension was deal with recognizing the words they knew, which showed that 56% of the students “sometimes” faced this situation.     THE EFFECT OF USING FISHBOWL STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF NARRATIVE TEXT AT STATE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 3 MANDAU OF BENGKALIS REGENCY

    This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the students in learning English especially in reading narrative text. Based on the fact, the students have problems to comprehend the narrative text. In this case, the writer was interested in carrying out the research about these problems. The writer provided Fishbowl Strategy to improve the students’ reading comprehension. This strategy can be used to improve the students’ reading comprehension or to help the students comprehend the main points of the story. The objectives of the research were to find out the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught by using Fishbowl strategy, to find out the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text taught without using this strategy and to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Fishbowl strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at SMA N 3 Mandau. The design of this research was a quasi-experimental design. In collecting the data, the writer used both pre- and post- test to collect the data of the reading comprehension of narrative text of the first year students at state senior high school 3 Mandau.The population of this research was the all tenth grades that consisted of 477 students. Considering that population was large, the writer only took two classes be sample; X.8 consisted of 44 students as experimental class, and X.11 consisted 43 students as control class.So, the number of sample from two classes was 87 students. In analyzing the data, the writer used an independent sample t-test. By using SPSS 22.0 and to was compared with ttable considering df. Finally, based on the analysis of T-test formula, the writer concluded that there is a significant effect of using Fishbowl strategy on students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at State Senior High School 3 Mandau, where tobtained= 3.863 is higher than t-table either at 5%=2.00 nor 1%=2.65. It means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected

    RANCANG BANGUN PROTOTYPE ANTENNA RADIAL LINE SLOT ARRAY (RLSA) DENGAN TEKNIK PEMBAGIAN DUAL BEAMPADA FREKUENSI 5,8 GHz

    Pada penelitian ini antena RLSA dirancang dengan teknik pembagian beammenjadi dual beampada frekuensi 5,8 GHz yang artinya menggabungkan dua antena RLSA menjadi satu, dengan tujuan efisiensi biaya dan installasi. Tujuan akhir penelitian ini ialah menghasilkan antena RLSA dual beamyang bekerjapada frekuensi 5,8 GHz. Prototypeantena RLSA dirancang dengan softwareVBA dan disimulasikan dengansoftwareCSTMicrowave Studio2010 menggunakan teknik parameterisasi untuk mendapatkan parameter antena yang diinginkan. Antena RLSA dual beamyang memiliki kinerja yang baik ialah antena dengan jari -jari 115 mm, beamsquint77odan 283oyang memiliki 14 slotpada ringpertama. Hasil rancangan kemudian dipabrikasi dan dilakukan pengukuran untuk mengetahui parameter sebenarnya dari prototypeantena RLSAdual beam. Hasil pengukuran menunjukkan antena RLSA dual beammemiliki return loss sebesar -18.569 dB dan hasil simulasi sebesar -15,386 dengan acuan return loss≤ -10 dB. Gain yang didapat pada hasil pengukuran sedikit lebih besar yaitu 13,531 dBi dibandingkan dengan gain hasil simulasi sebesar 13,29 dB. Puncak pola radiasi pada simulasi mengarah ke sudut 61odan 299o dengan beamwidth29,8o sementara pada hasil pengukuran pada sudut 43o dan 307odengan beamwidth30o. Bandwidthhasil pengukuran juga lebih lebar yaitu 614 MHz dibandingkan dengan hasil simulasi sebesar 559 MHz pada frekuensi kerja 5,8 GHz.     Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian Quasi Experimental dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning menggunakan laroratorium riil terhadap kemampuan kognitif siswa kelas XI pada materi kelarutan dan hasil kali kelarutan di SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru tahun ajaran 2016/2017. Sampel terdiri dari dua kelas yang pengambilannya menggunakan teknik simple random sampling diperoleh kelas XI MIA 4 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas XI MIA 5 sebagai kelas kontrol. Teknik pengumpulan data yaitu dengan metode tes, dokumentasi dan observasi. Analisis data akhir berupa analisis butir soal, uji hipotesis dan uji daya serap. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian uji hipotesis menggunakan uji t diperoleh thitung adalah 1,716 sementara ttabel adalah 1,68 dengan taraf signifikan 0,05. Pada uji daya serap untuk kemampuan kognitif diperoleh presentase daya serap kelas eksperimen lebih besar dari kontrol yaitu 88,57% dengan kategori amat baik sementara kelas kontrol adalah 84,45% dengan kategori baik. Pada taksonomi Bloom terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada aspek pemahaman (C2), penerapan (C3) dan analisis (C4). Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan ada pengaruh penerapan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning menggunakan laboratorium riil terhadap kemampuan kognitif siswa di SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru.     PROBLEMATIKA PENYUSUNAN PROGRAM BIMBINGAN DAN KONSELING BERBASIS IDENTIFIKASI KEBUTUHAN DAN MASALAH SISWA (IKMS) DI SEKOLAH MENENGAH KEJURUAN KEHUTANAN PEKANBARU

    Tujuan penelitian: (1) Untuk megetahui problematika penyusunan program BK berbasis IKMS, (2) Faktor penyebab problematika penyusunan program BK berbasis IKMS, (3) Solusi guru BK untuk mengatasi problematika penyusunan program BK berbasis IKMS di SMK Kehutanan Pekanbaru. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui wawancara dan di analisis menggunakan teknik perbandingan tetap. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) pelaksanaan belum mengikuti langkah-langkah penggunaan instrumen (2) siswa asal-asalan, tidak jujur, malas-malasan asal ceklis dan tidak serius dalam mengisi angket IKMS (3) Pengolahan dan pemaknaan jawaban angket IKMS; Tidak dilaksanakan secara keseluruhan, (4) Guru BK dan seluruh personil sekolah tidak melaksanakan musyawarah terkait penyusunan program BK, (5) Guru BK belum bisa meminimalisir waktu penyusunan Program BK, (6) Instrumen IKMS belum efektif bagi siswa, (7) Belum ada pembaharuan instrumen IKMS. Faktor penyebab problematika penyusunan program BK berbasis IKMS adalah :(1) Siswa; Persepsi negatif siswa, program BK jarang dilaksanakan dan pengalaman buruk siswa terhadap BK, (2) Musyawarah penyusunan program BK; minimnya waktu dan pengetahuan personil sekolah mengenai BK serta latar belakang pendidikan yang berbeda, (3) Waktu; adanya beberapa panggilan saat penyusunan program BK sehingga penyusunan program tertunda, (4) Efektivitas instrumen; siswa tidak mengisi angket IKMS dengan serius dan jujur. Solusi Guru BK dalam mengatasi problematika penyusunan program BK berbasis IKMS: (1)Mengikuti pelatihan penunjang profesi untuk mendapatkan informasi terkait program BK, (2) Menyusun program tambahan yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa, (3) Meminta jam pelajaran tambahan dalam pengisian angket IKMS yang berjumlah 180 pernyataan, (4) Menjelaskan kembali terkait tujuan, fungsi dan kegunaan IKMS terhadap siswa, (5) Berinovasi dalam pelaksanaan layanan, (6) Mencari instrumen lain yang lebih efektif untuk mengatasi masalah dan memenuhi kebutuhan siswa.     THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ CONSCIENTIOUSNESS PERSONALITY AND THEIR ENGLISH ACHIEVEMENT AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 3 MANDAU BENGKALIS

    The purpose of this research is to examine whether there is any significant correlation between conscientiousness personality and English achievement at the eleventh grade student of senior high school 03 Mandau. There were 60 students as samples by using simple random sampling technique. This research approach was quantitative method and the technique used in this research was a correlational technique. In collecting the data, the writer distributed the questionnaire to the respondents to determine the conscientiousness personality, which consist of 42 item statements that was constructed based on the indicators of conscientiousness personality by Premuzic & Furnham and used documentation of the students’ score made by English teacher at the school to determine the English achievement.. The writer used Pearson Product Moment Correlation through SPSS 20.0 to analyze the data. The result of this research showed that sig.r obtained value is 0.000 lower than alpha value (0.05). it means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected while alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The value of robtained is 0.525 > rtable is 0.254. In conclusion, there is a correlation between conscientiousness personality and their English achievement at Senior High School 03 Mandau.
