Влияние гендера на лексическое наполнение художественной литературы (на материале азербайджанского языка)
The article explores the lexical peculiarities of women's prose, focusing on gender differences in language. The author analyses lexical forms of manifestation in women's speech, including frequent euphemisms, taboo words, blessings and curses, and emotionally coloured expressions. The paper provides a comparative analysis of male and female speech based on examples from fiction. Particular attention is paid to statistical analyses showing differences in the use of words with religious and emotional connotations, such as ‘God’, which are significantly more common in women's prose. The study also reveals the influence of psychological and social factors on the lexical composition of speech, which is reflected in the use of synonyms, antonyms and polysemous words. The study results emphasise that gender differences in language are a natural manifestation of differences in physiology, psychology and social roles of men and women. The article is of interest to linguists, sociologists and specialists studying gender aspects of language, as well as to a wide range of readers interested in the interaction of language, gender and culture.В статье исследуются лексические особенности женской прозы с акцентом на гендерные различия в языке. Consumer Behaviour in the Gig Economy: Implications for Traditional Labour Market
The gig economy is fast evolving, typified or characterised by short-term, flexible and task-based digital platforms. This paper investigates how consumer behaviour in the gig economy affects traditional labour markets, focusing on structural shifts in employment and changes in labour market dynamics. It gives an overview of the gig economy, which has experienced rapid growth in transitioning towards flexible, short-term employment arrangements through platforms enabled by digital technologies. The study also highlights the different types of gig platforms, such as ridesharing, freelance marketplaces, and on-demand services, by elaborating on their specific feature and business models. The study reinforces that consumer buying behaviour in the gig economy predicts convenience, cost-effectiveness, and speed of service delivery. The study also indicates that the gig economy has significant implications on the labour market dynamics since new forms of employment challenge regular job security, benefits, and worker rights. These findings support that while the gig economy provides greater flexibility to workers, it also creates more significant issues related to income instability and removing traditional labour protection. The challenges associated with the gig economy are also investigated, including regulatory obstacles, poor or insufficient worker protection, and the long-term viability of gig platforms in light of rising competition. The study concludes that although the gig economy provides new opportunities for consumers and workers, it also involves many challenges that must be thoroughly deliberated and mitigated by policymakers and industry representatives
Information as a Tool for Organisational Development: a Case Study of MTN Lagos, Nigeria
Information is, no doubt, one of the basic rudiments that can propel an organisation to a height in no time. It is on record that organisations that recorded overwhelming success globally relied heavily on the available information they had. When there is information, wise decisions and informed judgments will be made. The crux of the matter is the ability to manage available information, the source for more reliable information both within and outside the organisation, process and implement the information. It is against this contention that this research work is carried out. Therefore, this research aims to examine and analyse the role of efficient information management in MTN Lagos's organisational development. In conclusion, a sample of 35 employees, comprising top management and junior staff, was drawn for the research. The researchers administered thirty-five copies of the questionnaire, but participants adequately filled out and returned only thirty. This study found that organisations manage their information, leading to organisational development. However, there were problems which, if appropriately addressed, more success could be attained. The study, therefore, recommends that organisations obtain sophisticated automation capable of withstanding complex issues and motivating staff so that they put corporate objectives beyond personal objectives
The Role of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Initiatives in Fostering Global Citizenship Within Higher Education Institutions in West Africa
This study examines the role of diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives in fostering global citizenship within higher education institutions in West Africa, with a focus on developing intercultural competence, social responsibility, and critical thinking among students. Recognising global citizenship as a crucial framework for preparing graduates to address complex global challenges, the research uses a qualitative approach, drawing on semi-structured interviews conducted with students, faculty, and administrators at institutions such as the University of Lagos, University of Ghana and Université Cheikh Anta Diop. The interview data, analysed through thematic analysis, reveals that D&I initiatives positively influence students' intercultural understanding and sense of civic duty, equipping them to participate actively in social change. Despite these benefits, the findings highlight barriers, including limited funding, uneven policy implementation, and cultural resistance, which hinder the initiatives' full impact. Additionally, the study incorporates insights from 36 peer-reviewed articles from reputable databases, including ResearchGate and JSTOR, to contextualise D&I's potential for transformative education. The findings suggest that enhanced policy support, resource allocation, and institutional training are vital for maximising D&I programs' role in cultivating globally minded, socially responsible graduates across West African universities
Evaluating The Economic Impact Of Tax Avoidance And Evasion On Personal Income Tax Administration
This study investigates the effects of tax avoidance and evasion on personal income tax administration, focusing on their impact on revenue generation, administrative efficiency, and compliance. Data were collected from 175 Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) employees in Osun State using a survey design. Key findings revealed a significant positive correlation (r=0.506, p<0.05) between tax avoidance, evasion, and the challenges faced in tax administration. Regression analysis showed that 57.7% of the variability in personal income tax administration is explained by these practices (R² =0.577, F=118.76, p<0.05), emphasising that high tax rates encourage avoidance and evasion (B= 0.65, p<0.05). The study concludes that balanced tax policies, improved enforcement mechanisms, and taxpayer education are essential to curbing non-compliance and enhancing administrative efficiency.
IoT-Enabled Plant Growth Prediction and Health Monitoring System Using Sensor Fusion and Machine Learning Techniques
The major challenges farmers face are predicting plant growth and identifying health problems before it is too late. The manual observations in old methods typically result in resource waste and erroneous predictions, damaging the ecosystem and crop production. Getting a dependable and automated system to mitigate the challenges is now more important than ever.Given this pressing need, this paper proposes a creative solution using environmental and plant-specific sensors to collect real-time data. Then, it will be analysed using simplified machine learning algorithms, specifically Random Forest Classifiers, to precisely forecast plant growth stages and Support Vector Machine (SVM) to detect potential health problems. After testing this on various plant types, the accuracy of growth prediction was approximately 92.5% and 95.2% while detecting the plant's health issues. This system optimises crop yields and reduces resource consumption while minimising environmental impact. Furthermore, the system is flexible and more suitable for diverse farming needs, including smart farming and managing greenhouses. This research enables the farmers to make informed decisions and cultivate a more sustainable future
Exploring Cultural Variation In Traditional Greetings: a Comparative Study of Iwaro-Oka and Ikare Akoko Communities in Ondo State, Nigeria
This study explores the cultural variations in traditional greetings between the Ikare Akoko and Iwaro-Oka Akoko communities of Ondo State, Nigeria, highlighting their socio-linguistic and cultural significance. Rooted in Yoruba culture, greetings transcend mere pleasantries, serving as vehicles for expressing respect, social hierarchy, and cultural identity. Using qualitative research methods, the study examines variations in greeting practices, comparing phonological, lexical, and syntactic differences while preserving the shared cultural essence. Data collected from elders in both communities emphasize the context-specific forms of greetings, morning, afternoon, and evening salutations, as well as their unique linguistic adaptations like "Emooku ojumo" in Ikare and "Ewin-karo" in Iwaro-Oka.Politeness Theory and Speech Act Theory serve as the theoretical frameworks, revealing that greetings are performative acts fostering social cohesion and maintaining respect. Non-verbal elements, such as kneeling or prostrating, further illustrate the communal and hierarchical nature of Yoruba greetings. Despite the linguistic divergence, both communities share a cultural commitment to fostering interpersonal relationships and upholding social values. The findings indicate that while globalization and modern influences have introduced shifts in traditional practices, these communities continue to emphasize the cultural importance of greetings. The study underscores the need for preservation efforts, recommending documentation, inclusion in educational curricula, and promotion through modern media platforms to maintain the linguistic and cultural heritage of these practices. In conclusion, this comparative study demonstrates how greetings, as sociolinguistic tools, reflect the dynamic interplay between culture and language. By documenting these practices, the research contributes to the understanding and preservation of Yoruba cultural traditions in the face of modernization and global linguistic influences
Corporate Governance and Firm Performance: Investigating the Impact of Governance Structures on Economic Outcome
The paper investigates the impact of corporate governance structures on firm performance by examining how such governance mechanisms drive economic outcomes. Corporate governance is the system of rules, practices, and processes by which companies are directed and controlled. The study evaluates the various governance structures which include the board of directors, executive management, shareholders, and the effectiveness of regulatory committee structures and how they have combined to yield an influence on financial performance, risk management, and long-term value creation. Through an extensive review of empirical studies and theoretical perspectives, the paper highlights how governance frameworks enhance various aspects in an organization such as transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making within firms. The paper explores ways through which these structures of governance can positively affect economic outcomes of an organization through improved performance of firms, effective risk management, improved financial reporting, earning management, and high-level financial reporting quality. The results of this study prove that well-constituted governance frameworks are relevant in ensuring economic success and securing the long-term sustainability of firms. The paper also offers insights to policymakers, investors, and corporate leaders on why robust corporate governance practices need to be adopted if firm performance is to be optimized with implications for broad economic stability and growth
Phytodegradation Potential Of Tiger Nut (Cyperus Esculentus) In Remediating Petroleum Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soi
Conventional (Physical and chemical) treatment methods for remediating petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soils present some limitations. Phytodegradation is an effective treatment in terms of efficacy, cost-effectiveness, environmental friendliness in long-term use, and simplicity of administration. This research aimed to study the effectiveness of Tiger Nut (Cyperus Esculentus) in the remediation of soil contaminated by Total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH). The result revealed irregular variations in the level of the physiochemical properties of the soil before, during and after the experiment. The result also revealed that all the planted seeds in the different concentrations or treatments of the TPH (including control) germinated with the exception (50% germination) in the soil treated with 25 g and 35 g of the TPH. Generally, there is a decrease in the plant's height, and the mass or concentration of the TPH increases relatively. The highest plant heights are observed in the control on the 80th day. Also, there is an increase in the height of all the plants every 10 days. There is a decrease in the values of TPH for all samples considered after the phytodegradation. The relative potential or efficiency (parentage reduction) of the grasses remediating the TPH-contaminated soils with the different concentrations of the Petroleum Hydrocarbon is in the order 5g> 15g> 25g>35g. The phytodegradation of the TPH-contaminated soil using tiger nut is higher when amended (with an average of 35% percentage reduction) with the cow dung than the unamended (with an average of 4% percentage reduction). It is therefore concluded that the Tiger Nut (with an overall 20% percentage reduction) has a low potential for the degradation of TPH-contaminated soil
